Looks like aluminum siding. Does that need a special primer and paint?

Looked like lichens and moss and mold growing on the old paint

It is actually vinyl siding, there used to be a big tree over on that side which blocked the sun, so think that may have helped cause that weird mold or moss.

...^^^... I have 2 different handle models (IIRC, top handle and back handle) of the Makita 36V (uses 2-18's) that I got on a super sale and haven't used them yet.

What happened about a year ago, Makita was having delivery problems from the factory where I Live in Buford, GA to local Home Depots (via HD's distribution outlets) ... and tools were getting lost somewhere in the system.

Long story short after returning store bought saw to the local HD store and then reordering them on line on big sale .... and orders getting lost for several months ... basically got a discount on a big sale discount ... not sure why ... but I bought more stuff on that program.

It's really weird ... because HD REALLY cut back on stuff with military discounts now and NO double or triple dipping on sales either.

I ended up with about 15 high end Makita tools for about 60% off (and with extra batteries too) . Still have them in the boxes in the garage and will start using them this summer.

This was my best deal ever on power tools ... BUT ... I could not get a deal on the 40V Saw ... only on the base model 18V or more powerful 36V models.

I was wondering the performance different between the 36V and 40V ... the table on the 40V looks better.

PS ... Since I got a super deal ... I passed on some savings to a buddy ... I had about a dozen (or more) Rigid drills and drivers (and 1 Milwaukee set) and many batteries from the past that were older, but barely used .... sold EVERYTHING to a buddy for $200. best deal he could ever get on cordless tools.

I have the 7 1/4" Makita 18x2 36V saw with the track compatible base as well , I use it mostly for cutting sheeting , this particular 40V saw I have is a 10 1/4" with a track compatible base

I’m curious as well on the cordless tracksaw front. Is the dewalt option decent?

This Makita 10 1/4" 40V , my Makita 7 1/4" 40V and Makita 7 1/4" 18x2 36V all have track compatible bases meaning they work on a guide rail but unlike a dedicated track saw they do not plunge , and you can use them as regular circular saws when you aren't using a guide rail . For a dedicated track saw I have a Festool TS55 and TS75 , both corded

I don't have any experience with other brands

Not to start a fan boy :crapstorm:...
We had DeWalt at my old job, they were there when I started so it only made sense to stay with the platform.

They were tough, reliable tools that held up well in a factory environment. I respected them - but never really liked them. DeWalt (IMO) falls down on the ergonomic side of the design, Makita really shines there.

Yeah, I have to decide at some point if I’m going to stay exclusive team yellow or branch out to red and blue. Would be so nice if the batteries were standardized but I guess that’s not the point of capitalism.

You kinda want to go with one battery platform and stick with it

I have been building my Makita collection for a few years now, I have been fortunate to catch tools & batteries on clearance at TSC. Once you have the battery infrastructure the actual tools aren't so bad to buy with careful shopping.

The Makita tools are so well thought out, well balanced and comfortable in the hand, really a pleasure to use.

This Spring I got an 18 volt chainsaw with 10" bar, their smallest model, the top handle design is called an Arborist chainsaw, useful when climbing trees.
Although I have no intention of climbing any trees the saw has proven stunningly useful, I will go and get it for one limb when I would never fuss with a gas saw for the same job.

It is just under 21" long.

    ^^ Super cute!

I actually got 2 gas tools after moving to the PNW last year. Stihl saw and blower. They are pretty badass.

On the battery front, yeah, I'm about 15 tools in on team yellow cordless right now. But they are all 20v, none of the 60v stuff at all so I could change up for the heavy duty stuff. For now, my circular and miter are both corded as is the shop vac.

Not that specific one (mine is a few years old now) but my Wagner has worked fine. Used it both with paint and stains and never had an issue. Just make sure to really clean it out

Think mine is from the control lineup?

During a rainstorm yesterday I went outside and noticed that one of my underground rain diverter isn't doing its job. It's backing up and water is staying right next to the foundation.

The pop-up diverter in the yard is overgrown with grass so I cut that back but the catch basin by the downspout stays full because it's graded wrong and the pop-up part needs to be extended to get to the other side of a high spot in the yard so it looks like I'll be doing some trenching.

I'll be checking the other 2 diverters while I'm at it. I'm betting they'll need some attention, too.

I just pulled azaleas from the front and side of my house, they were very old and very large. With this experience, if I were to ever plant them I would put them a minimum of 3' from the house, if not 4' with intent of trimming them back 1' from the house. I replaced them with button camellias, as they'll be 4' tall full grown which will be bottom of my windows; their flowers give off a nice sweet smell, the azaleas didn't put off anything but I will say they were full of beautiful flowers for a few weeks each year.

...^^^... I try to shop sales and Festool is really good stuff and I have never seen Festool on sale here in Georgia.

IIRC ... Highland Hardware was the first Festool dealer in the ATL area and then Festool really took off for the pros and the rich people

I would need to sell a kidney to shop there.
