Depending on what you're using the truck for I'd say. Me, I don't off-road it so there is minimal advantages IMO

I think everyone is going to like the 4th gen. Some might not care for the turbo, some might not like the combination of options and configurations. There will be things to dislike, what ever issues that will pop up. I'll never like the price, or limited availability for what I would want. That's the Toyota way, but I think everyone will like what they see even if they have zero intentions of purchasing one. If I was you, I'd get a 2024 F-350 4×4 crew cab 8' bed 6.7 turbo diesel, and a 26 or 27 Tacoma Prerunner.

Ohhh you're one of those sworn second genners, everything makes complete sense now :stirthepot:

All jokes aside, I just wanted to comment that I think first model years really get more flak on here than fair. Sure the new MY will have some quirks, but people forget that you will have bumber to bumper coverage for the first 3 years, and power train warrenty even longer. Kinda the same argument I made in the finance office when I bought mine and they asked if I wanted an extended warrenty.. why would I buy one when the truck is already covered during the years I'll be making payments? If something major breaks after that, I'll own the truck free and clear and at that point can make a decision to either fix it, or trade it in and let it be someone else's problem. Same applies here with the 24, anyone buying one will be covered under warranty until 2027, and Power train until 2029, relax, it'll be ok

Lol I’m no sworn 2nd genner but I’m definitely against buying new stuff. My 2nd gen was my first (and only) Tacoma and Toyota. I had heard awesome things about it though and I’d much rather buy the last year of a proven setup than the first year of a new setup. That’s just me though. I’m sure the 4th gen will either be fine or it’ll have it’s quirks worked out. I just would prefer other people figure out the quirks before I buy it.

I use my Tacoma as a truck And pull a 6.5' x 10' trailer (double the use) B.T.W. on a Sport get some Off Road, take off shocks/springs from someone on here if you want a less rigid ride keep the sway bar for handling.

You'll be fine. I'm 6'3 and my girls are 7 and 9. Had an 04 ext. cab when my oldest was born. She rode around in that thing for like 8 months. Have had two double cabs since then. People act like kids need to have room to do cartwheels in the back. I grew up riding around in single cabs. Shoot I'd sit in the bed of my dad and my uncles trucks. Just have the rear facing seat behind the passenger seat if your taller. Once they face forward its better. Sunroof does make a significant difference in headroom. I'd get whatever trim you like.
As far as the baby. You're gonna be tired. Like more tired then you've ever been in your life! :)

Yea I think I’m just going to make due with the smaller truck for a couple years and then upgrade. I own a townhouse that is a rental and I’m about a year from paying it off so I should be able to save up and buy a fullsized with cash plus my taco as a downpayment in a couple years. Or buy a 4th gen after they have some years under their belt.

    Hey dude,

With a kid on the way I highly recommend getting either a full size truck or something like a 4Runner. You can survive with a double cab Tacoma and one kid but if in a year or two another baby comes you’re going to have a really hard time making it work and no one will be comfortable. Plus the Tacoma is expensive for what you get, it’s better to get something you can keep in the long run.

I moved from a DCLB to a 2021 4Runner and we couldn’t be happier with the room and comfort. It’s huge. But I didn’t need the bed. If you need the bed, seriously consider a Tundra. Forget the bro factor of the Tacoma for a second and think about the long term.

for the record I barely wanted to put my dog in the back seat when I had my DCLB. I wouldn’t want to fit a person back there, or baby seat

I’ve addressed this 20 times in this thread already but I bought a Hyundai Palisade already for the wife to drive and that’s our kid mobile. I drive and park in DC during the week so a full sized truck is a pain in the dick. We might be moving out of the area in a couple years though, which is why I’m leaning more towards just making due and banking cash for a bit.

Edit - I’m apparently in the minority when it comes to trucks…I didn’t buy a truck because they look cool. I bought a truck because I need a truck bed. I use my truck as a truck every week.

And one of your requirements is the hood scoop? (just teasing).

My 2017 offroad has all but the leather seats and hood scoop that you listed in your original post. Leather seats is an easy upgrade with products like Katzkins. Based on your comments about mild offroading... personally I'd consider the offroad before the sport and well before the limited. the limited is for guys with white new balance sneakers and jorts going to their weekly golf outing (again, teasing).

    That's a great idea - 98% of the time I didn't need a truck.
