Upgrades for our trucks seem to be slowly disappearing SOMEWHAT........I say....SOMEWHAT it seems, but this carbon fiber hood has our, or what looks like, our metal hood subframe. I'm going to call to see if it really is carbon fiber, the subframe. If so, SNATCHED UP DUDES! Light makes right.....light weight, less wear and tear, hopefully better mpg's. Also, allows for heavier armor and other things. Reduce weight, performance and IT'S STRONGER THAN METAL....WIN, WIN!

This winter, I'm going to do what is the winter oil upgrade.........0w-30. I read on here and somewhere else that living in colder climates(U.P. of MI) the thicker the oil, the harder on components to start. I run synthetic, but a Canadian toyota tech guy said it wouldn't hurt anything and he's the one who told me that.

There are other carbon fiber hoods for under $1,000, but not much under $1k.

If they did not use a high temp resin system to fabricate the hood, a few months in the South Florida sun will show the hoods weaknesses.
Yes, I have a background in composite structures, have worked aircraft composite structures for decades, and even trained aircraft and other industry techs in composites.

Expensive item with questionable durability. Many resin systems struggle above 200*f. So with the suns radiant heat and engine compartment heat, bad things happen.

That sub-frame is not carbon (I see welds)... I also agree with PMK, The carbon fiber itself doesn't have heat issues, but the matrix, or glue that bonds it all in shape definitely degrades in the sun unless you either coat it with paint or use a very expensive process/matrix. Some clear coats help but we all know they don't last long!

Lower performance resin systems often shrink from post cure heat. If the hood has varied resin thickness or pockets of pooled resin, even worse things happen.

Agree, the fibres are a nonissue, since they are made in a furnace at 2000*c or higher.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
Did you notice they don't tell you the factory weight vs the supposed CF weight? Maybe because there are minimal, if any, savings

I say supposed CF because CF cloth over fiberglass on the OE frame is a poseur hood, very F&F friendly

Keep in mind that CF bicycle wheels can cost more than this hood. Each.

    Audi B7 RS4 being a performance car
Switched from steel hood to aluminum
Because if you open the hood on the non RS version of that car, it is heavy.
The Tacoma hood by comparison is not heavy. The rest of the truck is. As is armor. Changing the hood will be negligible.

    otherwise you’re looking at aluminum.
Aluminess rear bumper is expensive, probably worse clearance, and not HC.
Pelfreybilt (aluminum front) is no longer in business.
Alu skid plates exist with a trade off.
    Never seen alu sliders

the truck with inefficient engine, worse aerodynamics from lift, and bigger tires, is going to get worse MPG regardless of hood.

If only it were that easy for the functional benefit.
