Seems like the engine has to be on in order for the plug to work.

That's disappointing. I guess a portable power station it is.

Is that published or confirmed in one of the YouTube vids? If so that’s crazy disappointing.

Pretty sure it has been mentioned in a few of the videos out there.

So...maybe. Our Rav4Prime has an 18kw battery- you can turn the power to the car on, turn off the display and climate control, and there is an option to leave the car systems on indefinitely in the driver's menus without the engine running. We camped for a month out of it- charging things at night off the car 120v outlet silently. We never once turned on the honda generator. Since the shortage was loose fuel, and we had to drive every day, we could go a week charging the battery on short drives and a night of charging only used about 2kw of the battery power, then refuel the car at the end of the week. That overshoots the hybrid 1.8kw battery, but who knows- maybe for a short time....

And a lot of us are begging for a Taco Prime. Maybe in a few years.

The new Prius Prime can force charge its battery too, which seems like it would translate well—force charge your vehicle’s battery when you drive back from an outting and have enough power for evening needs when you get back to camp.

That said, I don’t use much electricity when I’m camping. Ice in a cooler and aaa batteries in the headlamps gets me through most things. :notsure:

I was interested in this as well. If you can't use the battery bank without the engine running seems like a waste. Manual or me then and I bet a 2nd battery system will be much cheaper.

I get your point, but I'm sure the intent of the hybrid is not to provide engine-off power to the 120 plug- the extra torque and power is more than worth it. I do agree a prime version would have been nice, though in my particular case, I rarely drive my truck on trips short enough where the prime feature is useful, and the huge battery does add a ton of weight. Those trips are for the Rav4 or the motorcycle.

Yea, we have an electric cooler as ice is only good for a couple of days if you can get it- the solar panel will run the cooler almost indefinitely with a night battery. And we were charging diving lights and related machines.
