Hey all, got something to run by ya. I just came home from a 10-day vacation. Went to start the truck and she was dead. 8.6 volts my remote start told me. Had to jump it from my wifes car. It is a 2009 AC OR. 25k on it. I did not leave anything on. The only thing that is hooked to the truck is a USA Spec Ipod adapter with no Ipod attached. I have also started a car audio system. I have am amp with power and ground attached. No speakers on it. Just the amp, fused connected. I also have off the battery a wire that goes to a harness that will connect to an Alpine PXE-H650, which is not in the truck. I have speaker wires coming off the radio connect to RCA plugs that is plugged into the amp.

If that is confusing, basically the amp is ready to have speakers connected to it. Just not there yet. But I have had stereos before and never had this happen before. With the truck off, how can the amp be drawing current? I do have a slow leak in my tire which brings on the TPS light when it is low. Again, with it off would there be any draw?

My wifes 8 year Acura battery started right up. After the jump all seems well. Will see what the volts are in the AM. Never had any issue before this.

Any ideas? Could the battery really be that much of a POS? 10 days no start and a dead bat? SOmething is off.

where do you live......whats the climate? if you are in a cold climate, not starting for 10 days mixed with co,ld temps could have done it. i'd get it load tested to be on the safe side.

RI. Was in Florida for 10 days, but I don't recall it being that cold from people back here said. IF that was the case, wouldn't the Acura battery suffer the same problems? When can I get it load tested? Sears? Thanks Will.

well.........could just have a cell thats going bad. its not really uncommon for that to happen once in a while. and yeah.....sears should be able to do a load test on it.

Thanks again. Will let you know how it turns out. Gotta see what the volts read in the AM.

So if I read this correctly, you have the remote wire that runs off the amp connected to the stock deck? Does your amp have any indicator that tells you if it is active? I have heard of amp drain if the wiring is incorrect. Happened to a friend of mine when he installed his 4 channel. Battery was dead by the time the speakers were installed. (3 days)

No remote off the deck, the amp will sense signal on the speaker level inputs and turns itself on. Amp turns on as well as fan. Briefly hooked up a speaker to make sure it worked. All is well. This has been in for over 2 months. Truck has si\et idle for over a day with no voltage drop. I feel wiring is good, as this is not my first install. Anything is possible I guess.

Like I said, it is reading 12V now. 13.8V driving around. Seems Ok and has sat for a few hours. Time will tell.

Yah definitely not doubting your install technique. Just passing on that the amp can theoretically slow drain in certain circumstances. As long as the amp and wiring are in good condition and no energy dissipated as heat, then cross it off the list.
Personally I have never experienced this problem, I've done numerous audio installs too, and leave my vehicles for 2 weeks at a time in cold temps...never a drain on the battery. So it is very rare.

Check your ignition-off current draw. Should be no higher than a couple hundred milliamps if the emissions tests aren't running.
