Ah ok, I didn't see it in any of your pictures. Normally it's mounted in the bracket above.

Stock wiring for the 4.0L is as follows:

Pin 1 (White) Voltage Sense (Alt-S Fuse)
Pin 2 (Light Green) Ignition Power (IG1 No 2 Fuse)
    Pin 3 Unused
Pin 4 (Grey) Generator Warning Light

Large wire with ring terminal is the battery charge wire.

MAD. Pulled the wires out of the driver side front impact sensor. Can you tell me which wire goes to which terminal and how to disassemble the connector?

Pin 1 is Brown and Pin 2 is White/Green

The file below covers most Toyota connectors.

I gotta be missing something obvious here. Read a big 3 thread here and this is the alternator setup. The alternator body/engine block are continuant with the positive terminal on the battery. I don’t want to connect my ground until I figure out why. Any ideas?

Wait I’m sorry what? There isn’t a wire direct from the alternator to the battery?

You’re probably going to have to tell me as if I were an infant just to make sure I have all this straight. Could you tell me what I did wrong and what I need to do?

Alternator wire should be connected at the yellow circle and battery wire should be connected at the red circle.
Where is the wire from the yellow circle connected?

The yellow circle is the black wire coming out of the side of the box correct? Isn’t that supposed to go directly to battery? Then alt wire goes where the red circle is? I’m confused

I can't tell but this is how it should go, not sure where that black wire is going?

This is how it’s wired now, that black wire with the red circle comes out of the side of the fuse box. If I’m recalling correctly, this wire went directly to the battery, but per the thread I read it’s now going back to the post inside the fuse box. The red heavy gauge wire, the one with yellow circles goes from my alternator to the same post I have the black wire going to. Then there’s another section of heavy gauge red wire going from the alternator post to the battery.

I mean you can leave it like that but just be aware the alternator won't be protected by a fuse should something short out or the battery get connected backwards.
I'm big on having a fuse on every circuit, I cringe everytime I see unfused mystery wires running through door jambs and other random places on vehicles that come into the shop.

What would be the ideal way to run it? Why is my alternator housing continuant with with the positive terminal? That can’t be right.

If it was mine I'd be running it the factory way as I have drawn on the picture, alternator wire to the fuse and battery wire to the main terminal on the fuse block. You can keep your heavy gauge wires and get rid of the black wire and you can put up to a 140A fuse in the alternator fuse slot (factory size for trucks originally equipped with a tow package).
If your running an alternator larger than 140A then you will need to go straight to the battery but I would still go through a fuse of the appropriate size.
