Yes that’s quite a bit of metal shavings on those magnets, but I’ve seen worse too. Could be something failing in the TC. Also check that flexplate over closely to make sure it is not cracked.

Flex plate is not cracked. Noise was def coming from bell housing area so I bet it the TC. But I wonder what would cause it to go out all a sudden

is there a way to test TC outside of truck? I'm sure i guess next step probably just take to a trans shop. Im sure it will be a total rebuild. Hope to pin point to one certain thing like TC or pump but you don't seem to think pump has any issues. I don't see anything else on the pump that would alarm me either besides the scaring on the end which is also on end of TC shaft.

No, the reman places cut them in half on a lathe, rebuild them, weld them back together, and rebalance them.
The converters in the GM 6 speeds fail in that manner without warning all the time and take out the pump but I haven't heard of a Toyota doing that before but the metal in the pan had to come from somewhere, if you don't find anything fried in the transmission the only other place is the converter.

I wouldn't re-use a converter from a transmission that had metal in it either way as it's impossible to flush contamination out of it without a machine and at that point it may as well be cut open and rebuilt.

I havent dove deep into the trans yet just pulled pump off and overdrive gear. No signs of real damage that i can see in those areas and thats where all the noise was coming from. I bet the converter is the issue.

Update, just went ahead and order a new one. Has 61k miles and price was higher than i paid back in 2020 for one with less miles but what the hell. I think the torque converter failed on mine. Thats my final cause of failure.

I didnt take the whole thing down yet. I might do that since i have a new one now. The one that failed should only have close to 75k now. It was used when i bought it though since my truck is a conversion truck.
