Thanks. If my Google-Fu is strong, it looks like the same spec for the 1GR. I'll hook up my UltraGauge after I eat lunch and see if I get any love there.

Well, that's a bust. The UltraGauge doesn't have fuel pressure as an available readout from our trucks. I have to guess that the ECM doesn't monitor it because it's supposed to be readable by the tool.

Yea it's normally for vehicle with direct injection since they use 2 fuel pumps. High and low pressure pumps like a diesel does

My fiancee has a 2016 CX-5 that just rolled over 100k. She bought it used about 4 years ago (turned in off a lease) with 50-something thousand on it.

It had a headlight recall and the dealer replaced the headlights for free. Other than that:
    • Noisy powered seat - common issue. Replaced a cable/rod thing causing it for $15 and 5 minutes of my time.
    • Front Bose speakers sounded blown - common issue. The paint flakes off the speakers' metal frames and causes a plastic piece of the speaker to separate from the frame and flap around. I took them out and used an outdoor epoxy on them years ago and they've been fine ever since - $0 and a few hours of my time.
    • Rear (upper) shock mounts were corroding pretty bad. I went to replace the shocks and mounts and couldn't get the bottom of the shocks free. They mount into tiny studs and this seems to be a common issue. A local shop ended up doing it, but it took them three hours. - ~$500
I'd say that's pretty good for four years of ownership. We've just done tires, oil changes, air filters, and spark plugs as routine maintenance.

It is oddly optioned - it has rain sensing wipers and turning LED headlights, for example, but no heated seats or mirrors. The thing I like most is it doesn't scream "I'm a transportation appliance" like a CR-V or Rav4 (sorry guys). It handles in a way that makes it enjoyable to drive, the drivetrain is excellent (manual shifts feel really close to a dual clutch transmission and the engine is surprisingly responsive for having very typical numbers), and it looks good.

Her nephew will be getting his license in about a year and they had a really hard time finding something decent for her niece. I'd love it if she gave him/her sister a good deal on it and bought a new one. The turbo ones look nice.

Couple things to look at, check oil and coolant levels.

When cranking the motor over, listen very carefully and see if it sounds the same the whole time it is cranking or if it sounds like it speeds up on certain cylinders.

Now this won't necessarily be a tell all, but try cranking it and then remove a plug and see if it smells of gas. You could also try to use a long screw driver as a stethoscope on the tank and see if you can hear it. I know when I turned my fuel pump on with my scanner, the pump was quite loud just standing next to the truck.

    Check grounds and vacuum lines.

MAF sensor can cause issues, torn intake after the MAF or any leak after the MAF will cause problems. That's really all I can think of for easy tests to check stuff.

Was there any codes when it died?

Thanks. Since she's in TX New England style rust isn't an issue.

She has heated seats, but no heated steering wheel. Her power seat has two memory slots so she and her boyfriend can adjust the seats to suit themselves. My wife's RAV4 has a heated steering wheel, but doesn't appear to have seat position memory. At least there are no buttons on the door for it. There is reference to key fobs being able to be individually programmed, but it's not clear if she has that option either.

OTOH, the RAV4 has factory installed remote start.

Both cars have Adaptive Cruise Control, which is really good for my daughter as she tends to follow too closely and had the surcharges to prove it at one time.

She bought the car from a Honda dealer, but it has an extended warranty. I told her to find out if she has to get routine maintenance for her Mazda done at the Honda dealership.

    She's happy, so I'm happy.

Oil and coolant are good, no codes were present when it died. It initially started the first time after filling and very quickly died before I even released the key to 'Run', leaving me with a crank but doesn't start condition. It cranks pretty consistently, I've been listening for anything that sounds out of place and haven't heard a thing - including any noise from the tank area but I will try the screwdriver trick to see if I can hear anything with a closer listen. The intake is all intact, tried disconnecting the MAF sensor as well in my troubleshooting, that threw a code but didn't return (none of them did) after clearing and reconnecting everything. I'm pretty much done trying to troubleshoot it at this point with the tools I have available. I think I'm going to call the garage down in the village tomorrow and make arrangements for them to come pick it up and fix it for me.

Makes sense. Was just trying to give you some stuff to try. I use to get the crank, no start. Mine was head gasket, but you could hear the slight difference in cylinders while cranking, indicating compression issue. Borescope proved coolant in 2 cylinders. Sounds like you're just not getting any fuel though

I remember Huffy having Pro in the name of the BMS stuff. Or those and Murray called "track certified" haha

You probably already tried it but give the bottom of the tank a few good whacks with your hand (I forget where the pump is in the tank offhand)..not a punch, like smacking a stripper's ass. Sometimes that will at least get you started, at least.

Was tempted to add heated seats to the wife's 2014, I had a Malibu rental car 2 years ago and she loved the heated seat there..great timing since she was off her arthritis meds prior to a major surgery. I wanted to turn it in and get a truck instead but she got to drive it for a couple of weeks instead.

Yup, there are a few remnants from the Ford days.
The shock mounts weren't from rust since they aren't steel - it was some other corrosion. I could pull apart chunks of the mount with my hand. Really odd. They might have improved the mounts in the newer ones. The ones she has look like this:

    upload_2023-6-6_15-11-29.jpg

The memory probably takes care of the mirrors too. My F-150's does - mine also adjusts the steering wheel and pedals, but most other vehicles probably won't have power tilt/telescope or power adjustable pedals to allow for that.

Adaptive cruise is fantastic. Not long after I got this truck, we had a bout of stop and go traffic on I-90. The adaptive cruise will come to a stop for you, and start crawling along again as traffic starts moving.

On a 2020, the speaker issue probably won't happen either. Her 2016 has really odd 9" round speakers in the front doors, but no actual subwoofer. I couldn't replace them with aftermarket because they were 1 ohm, as well. I think they changed the system to have a subwoofer in the spare tire area and more conventionally sized speakers in the doors in later years. I will say the Bose system is disappointing, but I'm picky with sound. The B&O in my truck is significantly better and even it's just barely good enough to not annoy me.

Those shock mounts - that's exactly what I was talking about with mine. Blew the drivers rear, was super easy to replace though, I didn't run into any of the issues you did. Mine was 2-3 nuts, can't remember, came right out (for a 100k new england car, at least).

I hadn't heard of that. There's a recall on some newer vehicles that just got expanded. Maybe that's what you're thinking of?

The mount itself wouldn't have been an issue to replace, but I bought new shocks with the mounts figuring it had 100k on it and it's good to do those anyway. I couldn't get the bottom of the shocks out. Sent it to a local shop and they got it, but it took them three hours.

When I bought my Giant Talon, I tried a few 27.5 vs 29s. I'm not huge at 5'9" and a 27.5 in a medium frame felt right. A 29 in a medium frame was a tiny bit unwieldy but was too small in a small frame.

With my new builds, I'm apparently all in on 29'rs. I'm a towering 5'8" - 5'9", depending on which convenient store I'm leaving, so I bought the Polygon with 27.5" wheels. On long, sustained, high traction climbs, I notice the bigger wheels. The drivetrain between the Polygon and the new bikes are the same, so the only difference is the taller wheels. But, the amount of shit I can just plow through is awesome! It's noticeably more difficult to completely stuff the front tire with the 29's.

Ahhhh i didn't do that. I slapped the new mount in and sent it. Had a second one in my garage to do the passenger side then i traded it in before I did that. :spy:

That's funny. I heard it was more common on those than other vehicles but for someone else to have the same exact issue as me is hilarious. I didn't think it was THAT common.
