I am thinking about picking up this RTT but don't really feel like shelling out the money for a rack on my canopy. Also, still not entirely sure the Leer 100R will hold that much weight and I can't find the load specs anywhere. So the backup plan would be to mount this on the Prinsu rack over the cab. At 85" long this would mean significant overhang over the front and back of the cab. Would that cause any problems other than reduced gas mileage?

I had one of the chandlerdoom hard shell rtt a mounted on my prinsu double cab rack and the overhang wasn’t crazy but it was noticeable.

Gas mileage but also you can feel the wind more as youre driving. The front overhang seems to catch air and wants to move the truck a bit when its super windy. I was driving towards Vegas from Moab a few years ago with this setup and the headwind was crazy. I was paranoid about the front edge of the top shell of the tent would catch a bunch of air and break the lock open.

With that being said, on the day to day / most driving situations I was in, it was fine. I noticed the weight of the tent up there more than the wind resistance most of the time.

Roof rack is rated at 165 lbs.
The way they mount I sure would not trust putting 2 sleeping people up there in a heavy tent but some have as post above shows.
The more weight up there the more prone to tipping over offroad on extreme tilts or if you get sideways - just a reminder.

    From the Prinsu website:
"Most Prinsu racks have a static load capacity of 600 lbs and a dynamic load limit of 300 lbs."
