    IMHO, waste of money.

A treatment or two with a good gas additive will take care of all that except for throttle body cleaning. At 30k, unless you are pumping bunches of the worlds worst gas I would not see a need for injector cleaning. I "suspect" the rest is nothing more than dumping a can of fuel additive into the tank.

That is an unethical dealer. Just a way to gouge you and take your $$$. If you have that done then your oil change was not “free”. Go to Walmart and get a bottle of fuel additive that contains PEA for about $6 and you clean your fuel system.

I've worked at three dealerships in the parts department... so working closely with the service department. Dealerships sell fear and make more money on unnecessary maintenance than they do on legitimate problems. I have horror stories... believe me. I've seen people come in for a fifty cent thermostat gasket, something that can be replaced in twenty minutes or less at home by an unskilled person... and at the dealership they are sold fear and leave after paying 5K in unnecessary parts and labor... on a vehicle that's worth less than the bill.

Of course this does not mean that dealerships don't sell legitimate service. But there is a reason for the phrase, "buyer beware."

Thanks, all, for the input. I'm glad I passed on this "service". I didn't think it was necessary but, having retired from a life in "IT", I thought I'd check with some car guys. I've been passing on Fuel Service my entire life but this is probably my last truck so I want it to last :)

I usually dump a can of Heet in the tank once a year. One year the yellow bottle and the next year a red can, in the fall because it's supposed to clean out any water from condensation. I also fill my tank, rarely getting below half so there is less condensation. Other than that I don't use any additives and only change the oil as recommended in the owner's manual for maintenance. Tires and brakes as necessary and nothing else.

I've found more people ruin trucks by their driving habits than anything else. And the second thing that ruins trucks is over maintaining them... Don't fix it if it ain't broke.

If you want to have fun with them, tell them to show you in official Toyota documentation where such a service is required. Long story short, this is a pure bull shirt service recommendation to transfer money from your bank account into the dealership's bank account.

    Dealerships are multi-million dollar businesses.

Local, independent Honda place was bought out by Penske Automotive Group, which prides its profits above all else!

$7.2 BILLION last quarter. Record profits!

Old Honda place "These are items to watch; nothing needs to be done today, maybe in 12 to 24 months."

New Honda place "The sky is falling; you will die in a fiery crash if you don't have our $900 Service done immediately" Biggest item on the list is "lubricate door hinges."

I do believe in TOYOTA OEM engine oil & filters every 5,000 miles.

Transmission: drain the three quarts, measure precisely what came out, and replace with WS Toyota Fluid. Every 40,000 is fine.

The Rear axle is about 30,000 miles. Drain and Refill 85W90. Nothing specific about that oil.

I'll do around 45,000 for front and transfer cases unless heavy off-roading. Do remember to engage in 4WD once a month. I have a 200' long driveway. The engagement and disengagement keep the grease moving around in there and prevents jamming (leads to a burned-out little more or worm gear). Simple to exercise it once a month on a straight section of the road.

Brake Fluid. They are often overlooked and change every six years.

Coolant. About 60,000 miles or six years, whatever comes first. It should be drained and refilled with the correct Toyota Spec stuff.

    Don't get me started! :)

Oh, "Total Car Care Nut" is a YouTube Toyota-specific channel. I highly recommend it. He had a good segment on why to pass on a one-owner, low-mileage sequoia. Lack of maintenance killed an otherwise robust vehicle. A lot of warnings when you notice the ham-fisted owner broke things and never repaired them.

    Evening all:

Just went outside and it looked hazy, noticed that earlier also, sniff, sniff, sure smells like wood burning, wondering if there's a forest fire somewhere, something's definitely burning.

:yay: Someone e-mailed to me from Sunoco and It's like they don't have a clue about the lifetime battery warranty that I'm inquiring about. I spelled it out A-Z for them and told them I have the paper trail of everything and anything pertaining to the warranty, plus every check stub from all the other times they have reimbursed me for battery replacement under the warranty!
Glad I'm a pack rat :), those paper trail documents will come in handy if I need to contact the FTC, in other words I should have them by the B**** if they deny honoring the warranty!!!

Also! For anyone who may be interested!!
Google>FTC Sunoco lifetime battery ruling>click on CPY documents and scroll down to 578 Sun refining and marketing Co., docket C-3145 complaint, everything is there. Glad I found that if I need to refresh someone's memory at Sunoco! :)

Do you actually believe the FTC will take an active interest in your car battery warranty problems? ….And if I remember correctly, weren’t you part of that conversation about high taxes a couple days ago?

If it has a V6 it has a self cleaning mode. Skip on it and add an additive once every 6 months. Or run premium non oxygenated once in a while. The ethenol is the problem. The service writer was working for his spiffs and commission.

The service to do is brake fluid.every 3-6 years depending on manufacturer recommendations. It attracts moisture and brakes it down.

Be sure to check your blinker fluid, muffler bearing, and change the air in your tires if it's expired.

    Oh No!
I really screwed the pooch this time.
I drained the brake fluid, but refilled it with Blinker Fluid. Now, my truck really stops awkwardly!
But, it's not so bad - I put the brake fluid in the tranny I drained, and now the truck really doesn't want to go.
Putting the trans fluid in the oil was probably the worst - I can't get consistent RPM!
And I used the oil to shine up the tires. Now I can't leave the driveway.
I've searched TW everywhere for how to fix this, and all I can find is to buy a Tundra. Or a Ridgeline. TW seems split on that.

"Funny" story. For several years, I was proud to serve on the ANSI Standards volunteer group, specifically for HID Lighting and components. American National Standards! As a loooong retired hippie, what an accomplishment in my life. Very first meeting - Chair of the subcommittee I'm in is the head of GE Engineering. I am a self appointed QC Manager, former Field Service "Expert" (70 miles from home). We are arguing the specifications of the then new Pulse Start Metal Halide lamp already being manufactured. We have given it an "M##" (Metal Halide designation). None of the three lamp companies make it to the same specs. There are several ballast manufacturers, which include actual HID factories like mine, which make our own, and buy them as well. Well, Pulse Start Metal Halide lamps require an ignitor, and run on ballast operating voltages that are actually "S##" (High Pressure Sodium designation). So, and actual "M##" designation had been given by ANSI, and there were more than 7 "opinions" of what the spec actually was.
This was my first meeting. I stood up, and sort of spit out that AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARDS mean something, are expected to be agreed on if issued, and blah, blah. That was my John Wayne moment. No one said crap, and we took a break. No one talked to me, and I was pretty much shunned the rest of the meeting. The next day I got to talk to a couple of the top folks, and expressed that I was not trying to be disruptive, only that I thought we had expectations to live up to. Eventually, I didn't eat alone.
I served 7 years. My name is on some standards. My big contribution was that I was the person that gave them a suitable combination spec name for the new products. Then, it was to designate the last "new" HID lamps with Ceramic Arc Tubes (that were NOT HPS), as "C##" designator lamps.
The upshot of all this? You could have a ballast that would operate certain "M##", "S##", AND "C##" lamps with the appropriate number following. So, instead of arguing the spec (published!) for years, you just accepted the number it matched.

I was proud of that stupid shit. That's why it will take years for chargers to provide "universal output" matches to keep up with the competition. No more assholes like me! :D

Yes, and actually they already have after the initial complaint made by others who also purchased the same battery, go to where I posted about and read the actual content of the decision that was handed down.
What has the part about high taxes got to do with a lifetime battery warranty that a company tried to get out of after selling advertised lifetime batteries to several hundred thousand people and then deciding not to honor it, if nothing else sure sounds like false advertising!

This is just the first part of the decision, notice the part about " this consent order REQUIRES that they honor the lifetime warranties" and that "lifetime warranty rights would be REINSTATED", the rest of the decision is explained in detail the rest of the text.

I'm sure I must have missed it... so when did you buy this "lifetime warranty" battery that has had so much time pass that a company has refused to warranty, been taken to court and had a judgement lodged against them, and now is so lost in time that no one at the company recognizes the warranty ever existed?
