Now the question is: pedals. What do y’all run that’s a decent price point? I can’t justify 140 bucks on pedals man. The ones I have now are gonna stay on my old bike for when I lend it to homies to learn to ride/ friends who are here at school and can’t use their families fleet of bikes back home

that and do I bother getting Cush core for the front tire too? It’s alr got it in rear. I ride 70% back wheel so that’s a huge plus

I clip in and use Shimano pedals (never tried crank brothers, but have always been curious). Outside of that, I have one set of flats: PNW Range Composites and have been nothing short of impressed for the price. Can get them for less than $40 and they have taken an absolute beating on New England tech. Have bent almost all the pins, but the pedal and spindle are holding up great! They have good grip to boot.

Only issue I had was running them in the winter on the fatbike. The snow and water would ice up around the pedal and it was like standing on a skating rink - however I think that would happen with any pedal regardless of price and material.

Anyone had issues with the Garmin HRM Dual heart rate monitor connecting but not reporting data? Mine has recently started either reporting intermittently, reporting silly low numbers, or just not reporting at all. Replaced the battery, cleaned the strap (I try to rinse it weekly or so), made sure the sensor was firmly plugged in, unpaired and paired to my edge 840 again, all with consistent results. That is pretty much everything that Garmin has listed on the website for troubleshooting.

Huge vote for PNW composite flats. I love mine and they’re very inexpensive.

I’ve never run inserts in the past but I dinged my rim on my hard tail on ride 2. I put cush core in the rear only. I wouldn’t bother with the front personally but obviously some of you ride a lot harder than I do.

It's a GX AXS derailleur, I feel like I read somewhere that the clutch isn't as strong as regular eagle but I could be making stuff up haha

It was on fairly smooth gravel, both flat sections so not a ton of power but I wasn't just coasting along.
I use shimano SPDs for clipless and one up composite for flats. I took out most of the pins on the one ups and really like it. I may add more but overall they have been solid

Almost ready to ride. I did an oopsie on the rear brake, and now waiting on a lever rebuild kit. Also think the red stem is a little too much and might need to be swapped.

Pnw it is. Bonus is that orange should match the accents on the frame and the lettering on my fork. Paired with the orange loam grips.
Cus we just buy bikes cus they look cool right?

Oneup composite. Cush XC front maybe with an EXO, DD or equivalent on anything less than an e-bike or DH nope.

    not enough.
I run the one-up composite flats. Pnw as mentioned is also a great choice.

I also run tannus armor in the rear. Cush core is great but it is heavy and hard to work with when seating tires. For most of my riding, tannus seems to be sufficient for me.

Hmm. I have that one. No problems here. But Garmin's support as i understand is very good. Try contacting them.

If I'm ordering pedals so I can use the old bike as a loaner, might as well order matching grips. Might as well stock up on sealant if I've got a new bike too. And some C02 cartridges for when I put this bike to the test on a 20 miler day wont hurt. But when im shredding in the park on it I'd want better protection right? so might as well buy some pants on closeout :spending:

Killer deal lon Skyline pants! Love those.
The Range is excellent, so are the Oneups and Deftraps. It's funny, the shape of the PNW looks like it wouldn't be as grippy as it actually is.

As for inserts; I've tried a few light weight options in the past but this is my first year on full-blown front and rear inserts. I always thought I'd just run them in the rear for a bit more protection. But, I went with Rimpact Pros this year.
I'm willing to admit I was wrong about inserts in the past. The Rimpact are not heavy (170 g), and they absolutely make a very impactful difference. I am pretty damn hard on my tires, and I can't run anything less than DD (front and rear) without pinch flatting. I completely swore off anything lighter, as many tires were unusable within 100 miles.
With the Rimpact I've been running Maxxis Assegai EXO+ front (had one laying around), and Kryptotal Enduro rear (same casing as trail, with Apex). I settled on dropping 2 PSI front and rear to get the protection and performance I'm after.
Findings? Holy hell do I have more grip. The softer casing combined with lower pressures make the tires claw into the ground. Usual that comes at the price of loss of protection and rolling in the corners. Rimpact fixes both those issues. I've had a few "yikes" moments of smashing into rocks and hearing that dreaded rim impact. Nothing. The rolling in the corners is one thing that does taking getting used to. Since the pressures are significantly lower and the casings lighter, there is a tiny bit of tire squirm. But then, BAM, the tire stiffens up and rails. The grip in the corners is impressive. Since the tire conforms a lot better in those flat corners you can really lean into them with confidence.

Long story short (too late), get the fronts also. The lower pressures are the big win here, not the protection (in the front). The grip in steep and loose, corners, and flat turns are absolutely worth it. For a trail bike, probably not. For an enduro bike, hard yes.

looks like you already got the pnw pedals. those are great. i was going to recommend those as well as chesters.

i think chesters might be faster because chester cheetah was a thing and cheetahs are pretty fast.

i didnt go insert on the front. im normally pretty good with front wheel placement, but the rear slams into shit all the time. ive had to swap my rear wheel from so many dents on the rim but my front is still fine after years of riding.

That had to be the easiest customer service experience I have had in a long time. Explained the problem and what I had done to fix, they suggested flipping the battery or they could send a new module. I didn't have the Torx at my desk so the tech support guy said they would just sent a replacement module. Two minutes later I had an email from them to verify my information and ship out the new module. Surprisingly simple and smooth process.

I finally let one go. Down to 4. 3 for me and 1 for the wife.

Next question, does anyone want to buy a Boxxer with 200 and 190 air spring for $900 or a Fox 49 Factory Grip2 for $1200.
Only selling one or the other so whichever goes first.

    Also have a Fox Factory 36 I can sell 160mm 29.

Nice! I had an issue with my Garmin watch and had a similar experience. They spent some time on the phone trying to trouble shoot, then started the warranty process very quickly once it was determined it needed to be replaced. It was a very painless process and I got to deal with a real person who was actually helpful!
N-1??? Not familiar with that concept...
