Changing oil filter housing from hard plastic to metal

    I think they tighten up from heat cycling just a tad, all oil filters I've ever messed with were harder to remove than they were to install, but I tend to agree that that isn't the problem here with all the housings breaking.

    Of the situations I've seen posted, the things are typically on so tight that they absolutely will not budge. Of course, using a better socket like the Motivx is also crucial to success. Some of those sockets do not look great for the job.

    Well I'll find out how much, or it they tighten up at all come this fall, when I do my yearly oil change. So far when I did my first one, the housing easily screwed in till I felt it lightly bottom out, and I stopped right then. I expect it will loosen up the same as the year before, or I will be eating crow.

    You can get the Baxter adapter and run the old style filter, some even run them up to side of radiator up top, so you don’t have to crawl under truck.

    My plastic housing got the gorilla treatment at the dealership and would not budge even with my breaker bar when i tried to remove it.
    Had no choice but to hit it with some ugga duggas from the impact gun myself, came off, no problems.

    so if the plastic housing can withstand all that, i’d say it’s pretty solid
