new tacoma not impressed, turbo, and battery

One of the biggest issues from past Tacoma owners according to Toyota is the lack of usable power and fuel economy. The turbo and battery fixes this issue. How good of a job they do will depend on the reviews and future owners.

 

I can get over the stupid turbos but i don't want any hybrid junk but your forced to go hybrid if you buy the trd pro.

 

How I see it, with the 2nd gen V6 we were getting good low end power but terrible top end where on the 3rd gen V6 we got better top end but not so great low end power. With the 4th gen Toyota is trying to fix both issues kinda like the goldilocks theory lol

 

I'd drive a 4th gen no problem. SR XC 4x4 if thats a thing. Oxide Bronze, probably not available on SR, or a Prerunner. No interest in a DC. Buying one might be challenging, or something I'm opposed to. Which has no bearing on how well the truck will perform or last.

 

That's how I felt about power windows and door locks when they became more common in the mid 80s to late 80s. Now I love those features. It takes time for people to adjust.

 

I don't want a hybrid even if it's great. No real interest, if I want something that has more power I'd buy that. I I'm driving a Tacoma I'm not expecting there to be lots of power. On board power is the only benefit to a hybrid system imo.

 

Not really power windows and locks are for lazy people. A battery with age will cost you in the long run.

 

I like the convenience of PW, but don't like the fact the systems can fail. The only Toyota I've ever driven has manual windows.

 

Would you ever consider buying a Tacoma with the hybrid turbo powertrain?

 

It's their Halo vehicle so they are going to throw all the bells and whistles on it. Reminds me of the F150 raptor, it doesn't need 37s but Ford will throw it on because it's their Halo vehicle. Their mid trim models can be had without the 37s like the Tacoma mid trim can be had without the hybrid system. Choices are there for everyone to pick and choose what they want.

 

People need to stop living in the Stone Age. Modern turbo engines are quite reliable and last well over 200k miles.

also I wouldn’t keep a vehicle with 200k miles because other things would be all clapped out.

Anecdotal evidence. What about the guys here posting issues with their Tacoma? Is that indicative of issues, or is it happenstance?

 

Yup. I think a lot of people are hung up on a few things …
1. Yes complex things can be reliable
2. Yes complex things will be less reliable than less complex things.

yes turbos are more complex but they can also be made reliable enough for the end users.

Toyota managed to make hybrids reliable and they are far more complex than any turbo motor

There are people around here that bitched and moaned about “these damned unnecessary smart phones when my old Nokia works just fine and my landline has never let me down!”

 

To be fair, new “smart phones” are extremely fragile compared to good old razors/Nokias etc.

I’m not a fan of all this new phone technology. IMHO it makes people lazier/dumber cuz “smart phones” seem to to do everything for us nowadays.
