Its kinda odd with the references to hooks being dangerous on straps, think about it a sec. if your hooked securely to both trucks/vehicles & the strap breaks, where do you think its going to snap ? Unless for some bizarre reason it breaks the hook itself, I don't really see how the hooks are suddenly becoming flying projectiles.

Under the amount of stress it would require to break a normal, non defective strap even the hookless/looped strap could fuck you up as bad as the "hooked" straps. I've yanked quite a few trucks out before & have snapped my share of rated straps (with hooks & no hooks ) & when they failed , I never saw any flying projectiles, just a "POP" & the energy was released (wooven stitch)

HOOKS are dangerous. You might think you can securely hook them onto something, however....it only takes one second for that hook to come off whatever it is that its hooked to.

You're much much much safer using a strap without hooks (loops) and using a D-ring that doesn't have any possible way of falling off. LIKE THIS:.

It's not the hook thats dangerous, its the inept person doing the rigging for recovery. Doesn't matter if its hooked or looped, if you don't tension tug your work as you're setting up there is a chance of it coming off, & this would be human error, not faulty equipment (hook or loop, I take both with me)

& I have a Clevis hook & reciever also, but there again I don't let anyone touch ANY KIND of rigging thats going to be connected to my truck, I do my own shit as far as that goes

A hook is not enclosed and that's enough to convince me not to use 'em.

If you're doing recovery and have a blip in the tension (for whatever reason) and that lack of tension and/or JERK of the strap can cause that hook to dislodge at anytime. Anything can happen during recovery.

If you wanna use hooks, that's up to you. I hope & pray that you never have a problem. For me...I'd rather not set myself up for a safety issue that might occur.

We have the ARB straps, as well as Our own Made in USA straps.
3/4" Thumbscrew Shackles, and if you have a winch, the all important Snatch Block.

P.S. IMHO - Hooks are fine if they have a safety latch. But if not, I don't like them because they can be dangerous, and its just a pain in the @$$ when they keep falling off.
