On the cars and coffee topics, my favorite is the ‘Donut Derelicts’ in Huntington Beach.

While it is focused on cars, there are always a few interesting bikes. Most recently a flock of wizzers and a great looking Ducati. 20230429_065414.jpg 20230429_065327.jpg 20230429_071020.jpg 20230429_070619.jpg

I've heard about DD, but haven't been as of yet. Another popular one is Sunday Steel which is the first Sunday of the month.

Call me crazy, but I'd take that over most modern exotics. When I go to C&C, this is the stuff I'm looking for.

    You guys might like this:

More bike shit. I know I’m cheap, but i also like to think of myself as resourceful.

Problem: The brake linkage on my scooter isn’t adjustable. There’s about three threads worth of adjustment at the master cylinder but not enough to put the pedal where it feels comfortable and I’m not pointing my toes down to hit the rear brake. The few aftermarket solutions out there are near $200 for something like this:

Beautiful for sure and probably worth the price from a manufacturing standpoint. But it seemed like such a basic concept that I figured there had to be a cheaper way to get it done. Looking around the internet didn’t turn up anything that was the right size or had the right adjustment that I needed. So let’s DIY something.

Found some rod ends at my local Ace for $15 each and searched through my scrap pile for something that could be used as the center. I found a 1/2” square piece of aluminum stock that was almost the right length but good enough to be my tester.

Used a sharpie as my layout fluid and found the center.

Drilled it out- only going 1/2 way before starting again from the opposite side. The tricky part here was squaring it up in my drill press with a very basic setup so that the hole didn’t start going crooked as I got deeper in the piece. I needed to drill through about 3” or material and have both sides meet in the middle.

    Sonofabitch, I nailed it.

    Tapped it by hand.

    Bob’s your uncle.

    And it works as intended!

This is just a test piece. I already bought a solid chunk of brass (for $8) to make the final price. It will be a bit longer for more thread engagement and I’ll be adding lock nuts to the rod ends. I’ll also be shaping it so it’s not just a random square chunk of metal. Got to give it some pizzazz.

Shit… imagine what I could do if I had more tools.
