I tried to search this without success. Getting a new SR in a month and wondered if anyone has experience or recommendations for a paint protector.

Mine came with a film over the hood, and it definitely provides excellent protection. Not a single rock chip after 4 years. I drive gravel roads daily.

    1. Clay bar (repeat annually)
    2. Meguiars Synthetic Sealant 2.0 (repeat annually)
    3. Turtle Wax Seal & Shine spray for high gloss (repeat every 4 months).

do not waste your time with all of the labor intensive, frequent reapplications required systems or expensive products. The combos above will bead water and look good for months on end even after using bug remover on them.

Had my 2020 tacoma ceramic glass coated, so far after 3 years and no washing, truck exterior finish still appears showroom quality. Zero paint chips either.

Griot's Garage has a line of consumer ceramic products that work well together. 3 in one ceramic wax (fine scratches/small corrections), 3 in one ceramic spray wax (if no or limited correction is needed), ceramic speed shine (between wash touch ups), and their ceramic car washing soap, to help "recharge" the coating. welcome to the rabbit hole. the detailing forum above, will garner you more info, and better responses. Ceramic Coatings will not prevent rock chips and scratching. A do it yourself Ceramic coatings are fine. I'm retired but have been detailing for 38 years on cars, trucks, motor homes and boats. I do 2 vehicles a week right here in my 3 car climate controlled garage and the difference between a spray coating and a professional coatings like I do is night and day difference. However they all work in protecting and shine. I just do it because my customers don't want to mess with it. The Turtle wax Ceramic spray is fine as long as you keep up with it. Find a backyard shop to do it as there out there. I don't charge those high prices like detail shops but I do average a few grand on a 3 day work week.

Well whatever was done with the professional coating on my truck, it seems pretty protective against paint chips from small stones. This finish if you look close, appears like a deep transparent glass finish over the paint. When I owned my tundra without this coating I had paint chips peppered all over the front hood, and some on the sides. I still travel the same roads, just not quite as often.

A layer of thin liquid with is02 sealant will not protect against rock chips. A thin clear film will protect to a degree

    LS1 swap with nitros.
I’ve put on Gtechniq CSL + EXO every 2 years and my paint looks great after 7 years in the FL sun. It’s easy and affordable.
