Who plans to skip 4th gen entirely?

Why? It outperforms the v6 in your truck in every way and you bought that

 

It's in really good shape. Around 115K miles. Sport long bed. It's starting to get a few small rusts spots. Specially in the back bumper.

 

Same here I just don't have a need for a full size truck. I just order a 23 sport today and selling my 07 for it. Don't really want to sell, but no way will I get a 4th gen with a 4 cyl engine.

 

No Access cab or "A" pillar handle on the Sport model - Too bad, I was really looking forward to this generation. I'm out. Keeping my 2015 Sport

 

You realize the 6 cyl in the tundra is also a turbo, right? Furthermore the 4 cyl turbo has already been in production in other vehicles, and will probably have fewer issues.

 

Yea I'm missing the logic behind a full size truck w/ a 6cyl is ok, but a mid size w/ a 4cyl isnt.
I'm assuming anyone abiding by that also wouldn't own a 10cyl Ferrari?

My mind immediately went to the underpowered Tundra with the 4.0 from the Taco/4runner. I actually considered one of those as a beater. The 4.0 is a gas guzzler, but I do like it. I also like the 300,000+ 4runner odometer figures.

 

Those are good engines. My mind goes to the current TTV6 in the 3G Tundra. It reminds me when Ford first did the ecoboost V6, hordes of people moaning over “trucks should only have a V8!”. That was until people drove the ecos, then realized, hey these are pretty good!

Dunno…people are funny, must not look at the numbers, the new turbo 4, 310-317 TQ at 1700 rpm…sounds pretty dang good me. Loads better than the current V6, which is no slouch. Most powerful Toyota truck I have ever owned, and the new one is going to be even better!? What’s not to like?

 

He was probably referring to older Tundra's that had NA-V6's, l wouldn't mind having one of those older ones with a MT.

 

Not me, I will probably get one. I skipped the 3rd gen because the engine and trans combo is garbage. I think the 4th gen turbo and turbo/hybrid will quite good.

 

My Taco is at 15k miles after almost 3 years.
I won't need a new one for quite a while...

I'll be tempted by an offroad capable midsize all battery electic ute. - there are several coming in the next few years...

 

Because it tows less which is ridiculous and costs more to purchase and to maintain.
And then I won't even talk about getting into a battery.
I don't need everything jammed down 4 cylinders to get it to perform.
I'd would move to the 6 Tundra everyday all day.

 

Tows less max but will likely tow the same amount far more comfortably with more power, more torque(at lower RPM), better gear ratio availability, and better brakes.

 

Brakes on my trailer is what slows it down, not the truck.
Better brakes is a myth. You think rear discs are better than drums and will slow a 5K trailer better ?
What I have works fine.

 

Trailer brakes do not provide 100% of the braking for your trailer. They’re a supplement. The truck’s brakes still do a ton of the work, and they’re better in the 4g

 

Disk brakes are no more effective than drums.

I can adjust my 4 trailer brakes so it pulls the truck slightly, so how is the truck doing most of the work ?

 

Disc brakes cool far better meaning less fade and better control

 

My trailer brakes do the majority of the work.
A small rear disc brake vs drum will be unnoticeable imo.

Would go to Tundra all day every day instead of the 4.
