oh we should have told you to avoid I-17. Always avoid that highway! But welcome to the state finally. Get the truck ready we have some wheeling/camping trips starting to get worked out.

 

They're doing work on I-40... I don't think he's experienced the "joy" that is I-17 yet

Now why doesn’t the 4th gen have that

 

Watch out for all the massive potholes on the 17 until the 179 exit...right lane is shit, left lane not much better.

Yep, not on 17 yet. Stopped off for some lunch and fuel and then will experience the joy that is 17

 

Shouldnt be bad heading into phx from up there. most traffic will be going up to beat the heat this weekend

 

So smooth. Finally picked my gears from REM and Cryo. Pulling the diffs and dropping off to Zuk in 2 weeks. Can’t wait.

 

Because the 4th gen doesn't start at 175K....

Woooo doggy the grades on 17 are no joke when you are towing 8000 pounds. Made it through with no drama though.

If traffic gets really shitty sometimes I'll just exit at Bloody Basin and take dirt roads back to Cave Creek. Much more scenic than starring at traffic

 

People were driving like absolute assholes. I’d be on a 6% downgrade and have a semi truck fly by heading into some twisty turns. It was really congested and I’m not at all surprised people regularly wreck there.

 

Yeah you should see how people drive that on friday heading north and around semi trucks.....

Once the expansion to 3 lanes up to sunset point is complete it should be miles better.

My last few trips went like this

Everyone jumps into the left lane leaving the right lane open. Then there is some asshole in the left lane going 67 when the right lane is going 80 this causes backup in the left lane. Then eventually there will be the inevitable semi or tow rig in the right lane going super slow up hill this cause all the people in the right lane to merge left and slows down the left lane even more thus causing people way back to jump into an opening in the right lane to continue the cycle of shit

Hopefully when it goes to 3 lanes the slow stay right. Leaving 2 lanes as passing lanes instead of one. But there will always be that one asshole camped in the left lane at the speed limit making it suck for everyone else

 

Nail on the head right there my friend. And there will always be that one dip shit that will camp. Our traffic in show low is horrendous. And we have no where to expand. 2 lanes max and 6 times as many people from 10 years ago. Atleast the speed limit is 35 mph so the accidents are very seldom. Or atleast minor and can get moved over pretty fast.

 

I had the misfortune of Driving from Flag to phx today, stuck on the 40 for 40 min to get to the 17. there are some interesting homeless tents in the median around Butler. I would have never noticed that... thanks. I-17 is everything described in the above posts....terrible...no thanks. A couple of weeks ago I came down through Payson and the 87. That will be my choice in the future.

 

Funny thing is that the I-17 has actually improved compared to a month or so ago.

ADOT is not my favorite...

 

People think I am crazy for taking 87 anytime I go up from southern AZ. Not to mention, the drive for me takes me along Roosevelt Lake to get up there. Only downside = Bylas to Globe….lol. But the Circle K on the east side of Globe is AWESOME for people watching.
