It also shows that you don’t have a clear understanding of what “self driving” is. You are still behind the wheel making decisions.

I thought the dash makes noises and flashes warnings while in that mode to tell the driver to stay alert.

I want to make all of the decisions when I'm driving, that's the idea behind driving. Like I said too many changing variables on the road to not be giving constant input. There is a documented case where a FSD Tesla crashed into a tiller truck on an accident scene. The outcome for the person behind the wheel was fatal. That's all I need to see to write off self driving technology.

Probably not self driving related but just this week alone a Tesla crashed into a person's home then caught fire, and a Tesla decapitated a pedestrian and killed them. Some of these people shouldn't be behind the wheel, even with self driving technology.

You do realize that accidents like this have been happening for years because of idiots misunderstanding and completely relying on technology? I don’t know of any other technology that will pull over to the side of the road and throw on the hazards when the driver falls asleep at the wheel though.

I'd be curious as to the stats for last week on how many non-self driving not-Teslas also crashed into people's homes and then caught fire and/or decapitated pedestrians last week.

What's Tesla doing building a better idiot? While creating a hazard on the side of the road for responsible motorists. I'm amazed be people who will defend a technology, or product to no end. When that technology or product has been proven to not always work as advertised.

You are willfully ignoring the alternative of a car careening down the road into other drivers.

So you disabled your ABS as well?

By the way, AI can react much faster than you can. Just the other day, my truck alerted me to brake when the truck in front of me was going the same speed. Turns out that it knew traffic ahead was slowing. The truck in front of me ended up in the ditch while I was able to safely stop.

Their self driving/auto pilot system currently isn't designed to allow the driver to sleep. To me though, the system shouldn't be tested by the consumer but tested by Tesla engineers only then released to the consumer.

If you still have to make decisions then why do you need self driving? I've had the VSC in my truck make dumb decisions I wouldn't trust self driving. What do you say at the traffic accident, " the car did it".

There are many Tesla crashes where the driver is moving at a high rate of speed, and the driver is under the influence. That's the case in many motor vehicle crashes, but the topic is self driving, and I associate SD with Tesla. Why can't self driving intervene in single vehicle, high rate of speed DUI crashes? If a Tesla can safley park a drowser driver, and tuck them in on the fast shoulder of the express way?

I think it's actually a simple answer. Human input is prioritized more than the AI itself. So someone flying down the road, recklessly, is essentially ignored by the AI since inputs are being commanded by the driver. Even military jets have similar capabilities. They can land on the flight deck controlled by a radar lock but if the pilots touch the joystick, it immediately goes into manual mode.

And self driving is a software add-on, which a lot of Tesla owners do not purchase. Also, once purchased by one owner, it doesn't transfer to another. That new owner must then purchase it as well. I think it's a safe bet that not all Tesla accidents were while the car was self driving, but a lot of people assume that's the case because the functionally exists. I'm also sure a few people have claimed it was caused by self driving in an attempt to remove their own fault for the accident.

Self driving is unnecessary if you plan on doing the driving. Sure some people like the feature and will take advantage of it.

There are a lot of vehicle crashes. BMW, and Mustangs probably accoount for a majority of them. You can probably throw Challenger/Chargers in there along with fullsize pick ups, but dang people crash the shit out of Teslas.

Are you able to simultaneously look in every direction many, many times in each second? The self driving computer can. It’s been proven that it is safer to drive with it on then off.

Good thing Tesla's (and other similar vehicles) don't self drive unless you tell them.

I feel like you missed that not all Tesla vehicles even have that capability enabled.

Not sure where you were going with this? I didn't mention, nor did I reference, any other vehicle manufacturer.

I think people are ok with their ability to drive on their own. With out the security blanket of AI.

Nah, I understood all of what's been discussed about self driving on the past few pages here.

I was comparing other vehicles that have a reputation of being driven recklessly, and vehicles that are popular. They probably are more likely to be involved in single vehicle crashes. Compare that to Tesla, which are still one of the least popular cars on the road. There still seems to be a lot of accidents involving Tesla when looking for examples of them crashing.
