SRick 2014 Tacoma SR5 Flat Bed DIY Build

Nice build! How does the truck handle now? Power to weight? Surely this will change with suspension mods.

 

Truck handles great. It has the V6, so power is good- I am used to my inline 2.7 in my 2017, so hard for me to judge the power- but it gets up and goes pretty well. I think I only added another 250 lbs to the overall weight of the vehicle, if the original bed weighs 200-250. I am thinking empty the new flatbed is 450-500 lbs.

 

Weighed the truck and calculated payload- bed is heavy duty and a little heavier than I thought at 780 lbs.

2014 Access Cab, 4x4, 6MT, Long Bed with tube bars and tow hitch:

GVWR: 5500 Lbs

Modifications Options Sticker: 43 Lbs. (assumption: tube steps and tow package)

Curb Weight without Bed: 3880 lbs.

Curb Weight with Flatbed installed: 4660 lbs

Flatbed Weight: 780 lbs.

True Payload Weight: 5500 lbs – 4660 lbs = 840 lbs.

Vehicle Capacity Weight (Manual): 1140 Lbs.

Trailer Weight Rating (V6 Tow Package)(Manual): 6500 Lbs.

 

New Tires, Cooper Discover AT3 LT 265/75R16, C1 tires. Next is fenders and suspension.

Installed my Summit Expedition Trucks (SET Overland) all aluminum fenders, painted to match the flatbed. Ralf at Summit also gave me a free set of mudflaps, which I think I'll need as a work truck. Really great company to work with, out of Alberta Canada.
