I kinda think just offering a half door like the Rivian gear tunnel which folds down to a seat would do it.

4th gen regular cab would have solved the problem. RC would have also created that much more excitement for the 4th gen. Toyota could have still had a gear tunnel in the bed to store things.

They could, or just left well enough alone. Don’t think my totes and gear bags would fit in the size hole they would need to make it. Usually leave the totes in the cab and dig for supplies while I am camping. Also have couple that I keep in the front of the bed at all times, full of dirt bike spares, emergency tools, and supplies. Probably could use a bigger truck is what I need. :)

Speaking of Rivian, maybe if they did a RC with an 8’ bed with something like this, makes more sense as a work/utility truck. 2’ for lockable storage, the other 6’ for an open bed. Would work on the DCLB chassis.

I would like to see him with my MX gear bag or my toolbox, both are heavy and awkward. Ok Sheldon, which cab style was easier to load/unload? Does the Xtra Cab make sense to you as a utility vehicle???

This to me feels like Toyota being cheap. Same way GM/Ford got lazy and killed their extended cabs.

It’s not laziness, they’re business decisions about what sells and what doesn’t.

Trimming the fat as they say. Though I imagine the Xtra Cab won’t sell well. Counting more people unhappy with the move than who are. They’ll most likely discontinue it altogether is my bet, like GM and Ford. Probably a good thing the domestics did that, Toyota might of lost a few customers.

I agree, Xtra Cab won't last. They went to AC for a reason.

If they think they have low volume sales now, just wait. The bean counters will go “oh look nobody is buying the Xtra Cab, just get rid of it altogether.”

Have a couple friends in California that wanted ACs, but couldn’t find any so they bought DCs.

I don’t trust what the marketing people say. Someone posted that %50 of Access Cabs are ordered with rear seat delete/utility packages but how can that be true if Toyota doesn’t offer custom spec trucks to be ordered through their dealers. They don’t even offer the coil suspension on the Xtra Cab. Not that I care much about coils.

Also, if somebody wants an extended cab. What makes them think those people will go for crew cab instead of going to another brand that has what they want.

I just went back to leaf springs from the coil rears in my FJ, and the ride quality is definitely a downgrade.

Difference between a longer wheel base and a bed also, not sure how much of it is that.

Rear seat delete is only an option on the SR utility package I thought.

Yeah. That’s true but if I go to dealer and ask for one. They aren’t going to build me one from scratch is what I’m saying. The Toyota marketing guy was implying that they could be ordered and %50 are ordered which that package.

Think those are commercial vehicle orders, Toyota isn’t real vocal about commercial vehicles, but they do it. My dealer was saying the local farms/ranches here will order those base Tacomas 12 at a time. They use them as irrigation maintenance trucks. Not to mention pest control companies. Can’t imagine those business’s waiting for dealer allocations.

As much as the Xtra Cab is less useful for the personal vehicle owner, I think it'll see an uptick in sales with GM putting theirs out to pasture.

Ford is going to offer an extended cab eventually, theyre just launching with the Double Cab, but there is still a big need for work trucks that are inexpensive and no-frills, especially with fewer and fewer RCSB 1/2 tons on the market (Ford and Chevy, and Chevy only after enough people demanded them back on the market).

Are they implying that most access cabs are Fleet builds which would come with the four-cylinder and the rear seat delete anyway? I’m sort of confused by their logic.

Are they are saying they tailor consumer builds towards fleet sales, but I don’t know how many consumers are actually buying the utility package. I’m probably one of the few who did.

Since when does Toyota use logic? :D

I wanted the utility package and also a V6 with a manual trans, and Toyota told me to go pound sand… :p

I don’t know if there are any implications regarding two passenger trucks.

I know here in California it grants you a 3 person HOV lane exemption, but I doubt that matters anywhere else in the country. Also, the rear seat delete has to be a factory option, not done after the truck leaves the factory.

We don’t have HOV lanes here that I know of, though if we get any more Californians moving here, we just might!

Can’t remember which year, maybe 2015 you could get the utility package with the V6 and manual.
While no manual trans, that is what I liked about the Ranger, could get the rear seat delete, vinyl seats, and a rear locker without having to buy an upper trim package. Dunno keep on looking at Rangers, though they killed their version of the access cab too, but heard it is coming. Good looking truck, understated not trying too hard like the ‘24 Taco.

Dunno, rode in my Buddy’s F150 yesterday for 4 hours, kinda liked the extra space. Wasn’t crazy about the 5.0 V8. Though he drives faster than me, he was ringing that poor things neck. Don’t think his Flow Master mufflers were helping…the drone was getting annoying. Oh to be young and dumb again, now I am just dumb. Would like to try it under my foot.

I like that super cab Ranger, I was going to get the last generation and never did. I chose the 2.7 ecoboost over the V8. I probably would have been driving the V8 like a maniac.

Have you heard what engine options will be available for the super cab?
