I don't see the 4 runner getting a different engine then the Tacoma let alone the tundras engine. I'm fairly certain the 4 runner and Tacoma have always shared powertrains...

Just like in real life it is good to know who you are talking to. I certainly wouldn’t take the same advice from a 14 year old as I would a 40 year old. I thought only women didn’t want anyone to know their age. That’s based on appearance though. Hmmm. I have nothing to hide. How about you.

Wait. You not wanting to say your age doesn’t have anything to do with you saying you have 35 years of Toyota ownership the other day. Does it?
I mean. You wouldn’t want the math not to add up. Lol.

i agree with this. but there have been some differences. 4th gen 4runner got a v8 and then the 5th gen 4runner had a diff 1gr than the 2nd gen tacoma and never got the 2gr.

Why is the Tundra's 3.5L TT called a 3.4L in the new GX?

I had a Dodge Magnum with 5.7L Hemi, and still have an '11 GJC with 5.7L Hemi. In both cases, the engine was solid. Never any issues with the engine or transmission. A bunch of other supporting/ancillary stuff...yeah, that was crap. The drivetrain, however, never skipped a beat.

4Runners used to have V8s. Tacomas never had a V8.

I'm still running my 2007.5, 6.7l cummins Ram 2500. Tuned it gets great fuel mileage for a 3.4 ton, about 24 to 25mpg on the highway, 17.5 in town. It's a big truck that I am keeping to haul with. I am looking at a Tacoma for around town and to matches that I compete in. The Ram is more for work around the farm and the big trailers with 1800lb tongue weight.

The hard part is figuring out if I should wait for the Gen 4 or just bite the bullet and get a gen 3?

If you’re not in a hurry, test drive them back to back and see which one you like best.

Sadly, the basic principle of correctly rounding 3445cc is a hiring qualification that is needed in order to work in the Lexus marketing dept, however not a skill required for Toyota marketing. Should be the first question on the application.

To be fair, Toyota calls it the V35A-FTS engine, so it's not like the terminology comes out of nowhere.

True. I guess they’re a glass half full group. A lot of us use similar optimism when scoring our golf game.

Why did they immediately release the unimpressive MPG numbers for the GX550 but not the (hopefully) impressive numbers for the Tacoma?

17mpg sucks. The next gen 4Runner had better be above 20.

Lexus buyers don't really care about MPG. They care about what it looks like inside and out. That's all.
