Have any tried the Capacitor based jump start gadget yet? I have a "minds eye" inkling of how the electronics would work to boost the capacitor voltage - just seems too good to be true! I have one of the little lithium battery pack outfits - only used once to start my buddy's Hummer - but the daily heat here in AZ makes me keep it out of the truck in summer months.

All this talk about batteries has me uneasy - the Tacoma is closing on year three (a record for this truck).

Many of the K of C clubs are closing because more of the councils are becoming church based. The clubs are going away. Around here the Moose, Elks are going away. The Legions and VFWs are combining, people are just not joining these organizations for the club type venue's at least around this area. Maintaining and support of the extra building is becoming expensive. Also 501c3 status can be hard to maintain.

Sanity checks on electric vehicle charging.

100KWh battery pack, charged from 240V outlet with 50Amp (dryer plug) at 80% efficiency, delivers about 8.8KW per hour. 12 hours are needed to charge.

A simple wall charger, 120V @15A, is 900W maximum and typically delivers 750W per hour—about 133 hours (over five days) for a full charge.

Our off-peak electric is 4cKWh, so it makes sense to have a dedicated 100Amp service for vehicle charging—about six hours maximum.

*I specified 80% for the worst case. Using newer Silicon-Carbide devices, and better algorithms, it can get up to 97% efficiency; some manufacturers use cheaper silicon with higher loss that doubles as a room heater. You can not charge LiIon batteries below 0C, so often, they use battery heaters to warm up the pack first, then charge.

Pretty well the same around here, but a large Legion and a large VFW right down the street from where I grew up, and are now closed, supposedly were robbed blind by stewards and some of the others in charge, which seems to be a pretty common occurrence in our area! :(

We have 2 VFW posts and an AMVET. Lots of vets here so they do good. One VFW post could probably close for summer. Winter when all the snowbirds are here all 3 are jumping. AMVETS sells a ton of low cost meals. I'm not a member of any of them. I've been in AMVETs a couple times.

The day was a good one with volunteer activity. We made 360 sack lunches with sandwichs, chips, and fruit for the Special Olympians. It's a project the K of C it takes on every year.

How about some TW 60+ that beer looks interesting. Kidding about the extra company. But the beer does look interesting.

It's a boat. Looks like a PT boat sold as surplus and now sporting a civilian canvas shade and a faux dual 50 caliber on the front and a single in back...

    +2!

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! I don't do so well getting up at 0400, and making a day of it! Off to the San Antonio Cars & Coffee, then out to the CAF for my first Wing meeting - so I get more informed. Home to solid nap time with legs of rubber! Up for burger making, and watering yard, but I could not lift the C&C photos from the file to the thread! Look for them shortly.

Great tomato news @Tacoma Mike! We pulled a few things off the other day. I think I have something plugging a hose I have to check today. Swim trunks on!
