I upsized tires a week ago and in order to maintain the speedometer and odometer, I ordered a Hyper-Tech speedo calibrator off of Amazon. Updated it and programmed it, it worked fine .

Noticed that after the truck has been parked for a bit (usually 20 minutes or more), when I go to unlock the truck with my remote (H key), the first unlock beeps twice like normal but the hazards don’t flash. On the second unlock click, the hazards flash and the beeper beeps. So, it’s normal after the first unlock. Very strange.

I removed the calibrator and the issue stopped immediately, so it’s for sure that. I was wondering if the issue was maybe receiving a counterfeit product from Scamazon, so I returned it and ordered the Rough Country unit from Rough Country which is known to be a legit Hyper-Tech in a red casing instead of black.

The RC unit came today. Updated and programmed as normal. Same exact thing. First unlock with the remote after sitting for a bit, hazards don’t flash. It beeps normally and flashes fine on the second click.

Anyone else noticed this? It’s not an issue necessarily, but if it’s doing this, it just makes me wonder what other funky things it may cause the truck to do. It does work as intended for the calibration part, so I’m tempted to leave it but I’m honestly undecided. Curious to see what other folks have experienced.

Here’s a video. Watch with sound obviously. I appreciate anyone who can confirm this on theirs.

Unfortunately I don’t have an answer for your question but I will give you a free bump with a question of my own…

Did you use a Mac to program the hyper-tech and rough country units?

I’ve heard conflicting things about them only working with windows computers. Sorry to hijack the thread.

No worries, and I only used Windows. There isn’t even a program available for Mac, so one would have to dual boot or virtually run windows to do that on a Mac.

@BLtheP My truck flashes on first press with the rough country. That is a really strange issue… Maybe try disconnecting the battery for a while or changing the door unlock settings on the head unit then changing them back?
@Road_Warrior I had to use a free trial of boot camp to run windows. It was a frustrating couple of hours downloading boot camp and getting the right drivers, then navigating things to get it to connect to the calibrator, but once I got there it was simple enough.
There’s a video from hypertech floating around that says to set the original tire size as what’s on the side wall and use actual measured size of your mounted tires for the new size (my “33s” averaged 31.75”). Setting the calibrator that way got it spot on first try. If you’re thinking about getting one I highly recommend trying those settings first.

Thanks for confirming. Very odd for sure. Do you have your locks set to the default where 1 click does driver, 2nd click does the other doors? I changed mine to where all unlocks on click 1. I’ll try messing around with the settings and see if any of it changes anything.

Cool, I will change mine back to that and see if it makes a difference.

Only reason I bring that up is because this issue happens on first click but not second. Technically, I don’t even need to click a second time but if I’m far enough away to not hear the beep, then I’m not sure it even unlocked due to the signals not working. Maybe changing back to the other signal sequence will fix it.

You also have OEM LEDs (converted) right? And anything like a stage 1 Meso or VLEDS tail kit? Just trying to think of things that could somehow interfere with the calibrator via the signal circuit.

I watched your vid, and that would drive me crazy! I do have an led conversion harness and stage 1. I swapped the side mirror turn signals with a cheapo set from the jungle also.
It’s frustrating that the same issue happened with two different units.
It’s been a minute since I installed mine, but you updated the calibrators before you programmed and installed them correct? Sorry if that’s a dumb question, but I seem to recall it having firmware updates. Could be wrong though

Okay cool so we are on the same page. Yes, when I plugged mine in and the hypertech software recognized it, it immediately told me there was an update, and updated it. Then it let me put in the correction factor. Programmed that and then into the truck it went.

No clue why two different calibrators are causing this but it’s definitely an issue with the calibrators and my truck, because it definitely goes back to normal if I remove the calibrator.

I’m going to play around with the truck’s lock settings to see if that helps, and also try disconnecting battery, but I also wonder if maybe year has anything to do with it. Maybe there’s something different about the 2020+ trucks since they had the ability to come from the factory with OEM LEDs? (even though mine didn’t)

Okay, I changed my unlock settings back to 1 click unlocks driver, 2nd click unlocks all doors. No change. Still acts up. It does only unlock the driver first, as it’s supposed to, just no blink. Then blinks on the second.

Gonna try disconnecting battery and try again.

Something else I’ve noticed is that the calibrator is warm to the touch upon removal. I don’t know what the causes are for the blinking issue or why it’s so warm but I think I’ll feel better with my tires not calibrated.

I hate when things don’t work right for seemingly no reason but love a good mystery and troubleshooting.
May also be a stupid question, but did you try changing the flashers setting under vehicle customization>door lock settings>lock/unlock feedback lights? How about shutting the truck off after changing the lock or light settings and waiting a while before changing it back? That last one is extra dumb, but it strikes me as equally stupid as fixing a router by unplugging it and waiting however long before plugging it back in lol.

Only other thing I can think of is to contact hypertech and see if they have heard of others with the issue. Definitely seems like a software issue with the calibrator is probable. I think you may be on to something with the model year change on the LEDs. Hopefully someone else with a similar setup and newer model than me will chime in with how their truck flashes.
Sorry I can’t be more helpful

Yeah, it is frustrating. I like a mystery but i feel like I’m not going to be able to figure this one out lol. I know for sure the combination meter (instrument cluster) controls the hazards and the turn signals. The turn signals are on the smaller black plug, the hazards are on the long white plug (the one the calibrator hooks into). Somehow having that calibrator on there interrupts the blink of the first unlock after it’s been sitting. Even though the connector is all pinned properly.

I did not mess with the blink unlock settings, I forgot that even exists. I should have.

It’s at least good to know some of them work fine. I appreciate the input. I’m thinking with how warm this thing gets even with the truck off, I’m going to just cut my losses and return it. It being warm means it’s likely using my battery as well, even when truck is off. The speedometer isn’t off by THAT much, just a bit, so I’m thinking all of this just isn’t worth it.

yeah, I am with ya, I'd send that MF'er back. Between the heating, and whatever it is doing to the rest of the system, I'd be worried about what else it could have an affect on down the road, and if the people that made it, can't get it right,, how do they know more issues won't arise?
