Can I haul 3,000+ pounds on a 4cyl Taco?

I need a pallet of 90lbs concrete bags (pallet has 35 bags) so I’ll be putting about 3,200lbs on the bed.

My truck is a 2006 Tacoma 2.7L, manual transmission, access cab, 6ft bed. It is worth mentioning that it has a 3in lift kit with an extra leaf on both sides. I have bigger tires than stock (215/70 R15). Stock max weight is 1250lbs.
My aftermarket tires are the BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO2 (31x10.5 R15) and they have a max “safe” capacity of 2300lbs at 50psi.

I am planning of only driving 1 mile through the streets. (The Home Depot is really close to my house).

The most I have ever loaded on my truck has been around 2,000 pounds of pavers and concrete bags (on separate occasions). The truck handled excellently. It obviously felt sluggish and heavy but bed, springs and tires did and looked good.

Adding 3,000+ pounds though, I’ve never done it and I’m wondering if someone in here ever had. I understand it’s not the safest idea and I should probably do two trips but wouldn’t want to break my back loading and unloading 35 bags of 90lbs concrete back and forth. Given that I’m only driving a mile and through light traffic streets, I’m wondering if it could be done safely. Hopefully someone has done it before and it all turned out to be okay

I don’t think putting over 1.5 TONS in the bed is a good idea at all.
Steering is going to be an issue. Stopping is going to be an issue.
Bad idea if you ask me.

Consider renting a trailer? Imo it’s too much. I was unfortunately employed at Home Depot a few months ago and did a lot of loading actually, you can definitely go a short distance over payload but it’s really not worth the risk, especially when you’re 3 times over payload

I wouldn't recommend it, that's over double the rated payload (1390#) for your truck.
It's not only the safety factor, you also risk damaging your axle and suspension.

Not worth it. Make 3 trips or rent a trailer. But at 1 mile from your house, just make a few trips.

Nope. Make a few trips or rent a trailer. There’s a lot more that goes into a payload rating than your leaf springs and tires.

Even a 3/4 ton truck would be a bad idea for that load. Don't do it!

I believe the Tacoma is only considered a half-ton truck, you'd be foolish to put a ton and half on it. I've put one skid-steer bucket full of damp dirt in mine a couple of times and I have about 3/4 inch space left between the frame and the bump stops. I wouldn't want the dirt to be wet or add a second bucket.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I was already leaning towards making two trips. Guess I’ll have to break my back a little bit instead of my truck lol I was just wondering since my truck has aftermarket added stuff to the suspension and bigger tires that can carry double the stock. But yeah 3000+ miles seemed like a lot but since it’s a short distance, I was wondering if it could be done. Thanks!

It could be done alright. The real question is: should you do it? Not a good idea but that's for you to decide.

I wouldn’t do it. I’d get a trailer or two trips like others have said. I needed 16 80lbs bags of cement once and I just rented a trailer. It was easier to load and unload too.

Adding mods to the truck usually only reduces the payload rating due to the extra weight that the frame and driveline now have to carry. Also remember that you also eventually need to STOP and having extra weight will make your brakes heat up quicker.

Tacoma isn’t a half ton. Half ton is full size like Tundra or F150
