That's why I bought my '07 2.7L a year ago. I'm not retired yet, but maybe less than a year away. I always had a car, or SUV and truck but when I retire didn't want the cost of 2 vehicles (insurance, taxes etc.) The plan was to keep my older Chevy Silverado as a backup while I was still working. So much for the backup, it left me stranded and needs a fuel pump.

One of the reasons I bought the Tacoma before retirement was the rarity of a manual transmission. I'd go for either a 4.0L with a 6 speed or the 2.7L with the 5 speed. In May 2022 the price was very good so I went for it. Traded in a newer SUV. Yes I took a hit financially, but I just look sometimes, and used Tacoma prices around here at least don't seem to have settled down.

2nd gens will most likely drop in value. There are so many 3rd gens out there. Why would the average truck buyer gor for a 2nd gen when the 3rd gen will be newer and most likely have less miles on it? Unless they come with a lower price tag.

Hope that's true... Looking for Gen 2. Have an 09 and just prefer that 4.0L over the Gen 3 V6 we used to have.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDliZpFibIY Speaking of the Gen 2.5 (2010-2015), AMD (The Car Care Nut) posted "The Best and Worst Toyotas to Buy in 2023" this day.

I'm still pleased with this 2009 SR5 DLT (Dad's Last Truck), and since I bought a replacement for the missing floor jack handle ($5 for a 2-foot length of Schedule 40 pipe stock just under 7/8 OD), I'm looking forward to installing a LC Engineering Performance Street Exhaust Header kit for 10% more horsepower by reducing back pressure. He also posted a video of his only rebuild of a 2TR-FE engine from a Tacoma that the owner used for plowing snow.

I got a 2013 Pro in black DCSB. Does yours have Bilsteins silver shocks? Because mine does was wondering what the TX Pros came with from factory. Also mine seems to sit higher than other stock taco's.

TX Pros were just off-roads with trd exhausts and beadlock wheels. Mine has a Toytec ULK on it currently, with 285/75/16 duratracs.

The TRD pros of the same year came with hood scoop, the trd pro suspension, BFG ATs, trd exhausts, and beadlock wheels.

The TX Pros didnt come with different suspension from the TRD OR. The TX Bajas, and then TRD Pro's came with upgraded Bilstein remote reservoir shocks in the rear. Both of those models also had upgraded Bilstein front shocks as well which provided a small amount of lift (nothing that would fit 285s though).

Not that I'm considering a Gen 3, but I wonder why you prefer the 4.0L over the 3.5L V6?

Had both, and the 4.0L just had better low end response it seemed. Also put a lot of highway miles on our 2017 3.5L Gen 3 and it was not my favorite above 70 mph. Again I'm talking pedal response and driving at speed. Just my 2 cents.

Kicked around one of the pedal response modules... but never pulled the trigger.

Many things that skewed this perspective (other daily drivers were F150 with the 3.5 ecoboost and a F250 with the 6.7).

Rear axle, diff, rear end, simply age has privileges of having worked on all of them and interchange the terms as needed.

Yes, got a rear axle with mine when bought new. Even got full size rear doors, not the 1/2 size rear doors.

Gas is $8 a gallon here. Anything that is more fuel efficient and also has more power is always welcome. Last thing I would do is speculate, or use a motor vehicle as an investment. Invest the same money in a 5%+ savings account. That's my take.

I wonder how the 2024s will be with (I believe) only the 2.7L or 2.4L turbo. My spare vehicle is a Silverado with the 5.3L, so I can relate to the skewed perspective, especially since my Tacoma is a 2.7L. Interesting newer Silverados can have a 2.7L 4 cylinder, turbo of course.

No regrets with the 2.7L though, especially with the manual transmission. I bought it knowing there will be times when I'll need to downshift, where with the V6 would not need to.
