After doing the Wabdr route I am considering doing some of the Orbdr route next year. My plan would be to do Route 5 Section 4 - 2 and then heading over to the coast via Section 2 and Section 6 with the option to spend a day at the dunes before cruising home. Would likely be towards the end of Summer but before school starts up so I could take Warthog along.

Rt6 was pretty tame from I5 to the coast, tbh. Rt3 was pretty fun, though.

Looks like I have 2 potential weeks in August that may end up working for me.

    Aug 5-13 or 19-27 +/- a day or 2.

After digging into this further I would probably run the route from South to North. I could be convinced to run either the same route as Adventuretaco https://adventuretaco.com/return-to-the-oregon-backcountry-discovery-route/ (https://oohva.org/OBCDR/route5.html)
or the route as shown on the ridebdr https://ridebdr.com/orbdr/ both routes start a long ways from here but end a little closer to home. As much as I'd like to make it to the dunes, I think I'd rather do that as a separate trip. Both route options seem to offer their own unique views of the state.

The early August dates are a no go for me, but the late ones might work for weekend fun.

Pencil me in with heavy dark pencil borderline erasable ink. So far I haven’t hit any nos or snags yet. Still a ways out though.

I can do both of those weeks but would need to be back on the 26th for a work event. I can just break off from the group when needed.

If we make plans similar to the WaBdr trip last year and had a couple target destinations with the ability to be flexible with our stop points I think that would be no problem. Depending upon who goes and their availability I could see bombing down on Friday or Saturday and starting the drive early the next day. I have family in La Pine so even if it was a trip there Friday after work and then head down the following morning. They have parking that could easily fit 20+ trucks if needed.

I have a gpx file of the oohv route (route 5) that goes to Walla Walla that has gas stations labeled as well as some of the alternate routes. Even still I’ll buy the maps from oohv so we have an updated copy.

I’ll make it if I can. Like tony, it might only be for a couple days over a weekend.

Just wanted to see if you all had considered the dates previously mentioned yet? Are we still game? I'm still available both those weeks.

Sorry for the late reply. With some soccer stuff at the end of August the later week is rough for us. I could do the early Aug 5 starting day or even the next weekend starting Aug 12.

I just purchased a set of the maps from the Oohva site

Check with each forest service where the routes pass through before you go. Specifically Route 6 has a lot of gates. If you try to run through it when the IFPL reaches Level III there’s a very high chance they will lock those gates. Good luck

I’m planning on running through the Route 5 section but figured I’d be making a bunch of calls in the days leading up to the trip.

There is a brand new ORBDR. Thoughts on this route?

That is the one listed on the official “bdr” website. I watched the YouTube video of it that was like 90 minutes long. I like that it ends up closer to home and looks to end with some pretty spectacular views. The motorcycle ride did it in 9 days to make it a slower more enjoyable pace. It looked a lot more tame than the other route from what I was able to gather. It keeps us closer to civilization if something were to happen.
