I always like to show before and after photos during Covid lockdowns how it literally cleared the air when driving ICE vehicles was limited

 

Californias smog cleared up do to catalytic converters creating a massive difference in emissions. What do you think is overall better for the environment, a vehicle with a simple engine that can run for 300-400,000 miles or a complex one that is a tiny bit more efficient but ends up in the junkyard by 150,000 miles. Which do you think is better for the vehicle manufacturer? The consumer is getting screwed based on the illusion of being better for the environment.

 

There’s always clear and hazy days. How about last week with the forest fire smoke

 

Thats a pretty dramatic difference. I remember driving in LA in early 2021. It was amazing how clear the air was. I personally think we would actually make a lot of progress by allowing more people who don’t need to be in person to work remotely. So much wasted time, energy and fuel by making people commute everyday. The c level execs have been doing it for a long time but it’s now only a problem when the plebeians have that freedom.

 

Catalytic converters were only implemented after stricter gov regulation. You are making the assumption that the 2.4L will only last 150k miles. If you watched the video I posted you would realize there is nothing that complex about how 2.4 creates a more complete combustion cycle. It has comparable complexity to the 3.5. There are plenty of detailed breakdowns, I posted one here a week back. Most Toyota engines from the last 25 years are capable of reaching very high mileage with correct care. The idea that they will suddenly stop making reliable long lasting engines is a little silly. They have more data and a better working knowledge of of how to prevent premature wear today than they did 20 years ago. In the age of modern synthetics and better manufacturing techniques engines have better longevity, regardless of manufacturer.

 

Unless you are there to see for yourself it's hard to judge as the photos can also be doctored or selected to push an agenda. Vaguely recall a few years back when a climate organization doctored photos of polar bears or something.

 

Now people don't believe that when the lock downs happened the air didn't clear ? Lol

 

Depending on tempature, humidity, and barometric pressure. One day the sky can be hazy with little visibilty, and the next day the sky can be clear blue, and you can see for miles.

 

It's all a conspiracy, Duh!! lol

 

It's called common sense though lol dame reason animals were seen in cities where they normally weren't. People were staying off the roads

 

There weren't any lock downs. Only closures, protests, and loans.

That's true, but there were a lot of people out there with lots of idle time. Participating in a lot of stupidity. Now there are a lot of people back on the road.

 

Pretty sure in China where most of the population comes from there was lol but yeah in north America unnecessary travel was frowned upon

 

In NJ it was 'essential travel'. To doctors or food shopping essential workers traveling.

 

Of course. The photos could be nothing more than the clearest day of the year and the haziest. You would need an average of everyday of each year to mean anything. You can go to the beach here on Cape Cod and have a clear and hazy sky in the same day and it has nothing to do with pollution.

 

You could go anywhere you wanted to, most everything was officially closed like the courts. You could go to one town and travel 20 minutes to another town and think you entered another world. You could probably look on a map and see the difference and know what to expect to see when you get there.

 

Yea conveniently ignore the No2 concentration map he posted. It was definitely wind conditions and barometric pressure that kept the sky smog free in major cities for months.
