That's the thing with them for me now, they're a bit precious. I bought mine way back for around $12K with 140K miles on it, so if it got some lumps it wasn't the end of the world. What you'd pay for a clean one with that mileage now is kinda nuts. You can't argue with how nice they are for seat time, and your kids have a point. Besides, you can do a lot with minor modifications on em. Maybe I'm getting old, but I lean toward minimalism in anything that needs building. A roof rack and a set of ATs, maybe a hidden winch mount instead of a full bumper, good to go. If I put money somewhere it'd be something like an extended range fuel tank over a rear bumper and tire carrier.

Damn, don't think I saw those pics.

Nice hefty payout from insurance at least.

I didn’t know if they were used. It just came with the truck. Idk what they would’ve been used in.

I agree. I'm going with the hidden Trail Tailor winch mount and keeping the stock bumper. Once I move the front locker and rear diff combined with ATRAC its going to be hard to stop on the trail unless I completely high center. The rear bumper and tire carrier can be moved to the LC.

Not really a payout. Self insured to keep the monthly rate low. I've been doing that for years and saved a bunch of money with young drivers. This is the first time that I have had a wreck. There will be a lot of good stuff coming out of this.

I’ve gotta see what that thing can do. I wonder if it’s go further than an unlocked 80. Surely it would, even with the IFS.

The only way I could come out on this would be to buy yet another 100 with a blown motor or transmission and move the good from the 100 and then flip it or trade for something smaller that one of my kids would like.

Definitely sucks, but I wouldn't reuse em. Ubolts stretch and retorqueing them runs the risk of snapping one when you hit a pothole for instance.

I've been out in the LX with a triple locked 80 on muddy hill climbs. We could leave everybody else. They made it eventually with ATRAC. Its just a matter of how fast you want to fly up the mountain.

You left everyone on the dust then, or the mud as it were? I don’t have any lockers or ATRAC unfortunately so it’s just the chicken tracks for me I guess.

The fact that in other countries they're using 70 series Cruisers on 235s in mining and other insane industries and operations and putting in miles most here will never see and getting by just fine should tell people in the US enough. All of these trucks will get by just fine on less than most people do to em.

@Ozark_RegCab -- I've driven these trails and camped in the camps. I've also trailed with the little pickup. The little truck has the first iteration of IFS and the 3.0. It had difficulty getting through some part in the video. The guy in the Jeep (with triple lock and SAS) likes to appeal to the Jeep followers with a video like this.

What is the groups take on this video?

I really haven't felt the need to go larger than 33" tires. One thing that makes a huge difference is the front camera. I can use that and drive over tough trails without the need of a spotter.

Yea those torsion bar minitrucks tend to struggle with no lockers. Our Tacoma IFS is a lot better I think.

I struggle with Jeep. If I thought it would ever work and some well intentioned members of the community making content could sway things in a different direction, it'd be great, but the whole Jeep culture would have to turn a corner. The manufacturing and reliability have their rap which is one aspect, sure, but the modern, "Jeep people," thing hurts it worse. I still like 2 door Wranglers, but I'm not keen on being a part of that whole scene of chest beating, Punisher sticker folk. I've genuinely thought about buying one. I've seen Drew Simms' videos on YouTube as well some Go4x4 videos and other very mellow, very outside the normal customer base and you start to think about it, but the people who I encounter a lot that drive em, shit, it'd be a leap! And I love short wheelbase trucks, and really its that or the 90 Defender.

For some reason, around here it seems to be a constant drum beat of angling for superiority by the Youtube queen. Got to create some drama to keep the youtube audience hooked.

Hell I don't even think that's manufacturer specific these days.
