So its not like hvac, where all the plans are lost. Even the blue prints to everything. Mfg dont even have stuff to their own equipment if its old enough.

i one time asked for prints to a store to help figure something out, they could only get the prints from the 70s when it was built. Store had already gone through like 3 remodels and not a single thing was labeled

Yeah that sounds horrendous. You'd think a business would keep drawings up to date for something as crucial to operations as that, but I guess not.

Most of the houses i looked at recently don't have labels in their breaker panels either. Lame.

Why ruin such beauty with things like labels and wire schematics

Yeah nothing is that nice unless it's newer.

what i don’t understand is telecom line, working in AT&T sites where everything dates back to pac bell. The amount of wiring going into a rack with labeling is insane. Like idk how the did any troubleshooting.

ill grab some pics tomorrow. Ill be at a ATT server site that still has the old phone switch boards abandoned down stairs

Oh I bet those are interesting. Analog stuff is so much more sensitive to shenanigans too.

The ones that scare me are traffic light controls. I took a class on interfacing rr crossings to traffic lights once and they showed us some pictures - some of them are just rats nests, nobody really knows what verison of what they're running, its chaos.

I been in some cable vaults under SF. Just all black cable going as far as your eyes can see. Just miles of it and some even goes under the ocean. No idea how anyone knows what they are doing down there
