I used too want the rest of the worlds vehicles, and then I discovered that other than not being able to get a diesel Hilux our trucks are just way nicer anyway

With A-TRAC is the front locker really that big of a deal?

I say let's open that can of worms man! And is the A-trac really that great over a locker? I'm guessing they didn't put one in because they will say the a-trac is just as good or better. Or maybe it was for some weird warranty reason. I really have no idea just throwing ideas out there.

Now that could be plausible, considering how many idiots would cause serious damage because they have no clue what a locker is or is for. That front locker can do way more damage quicker, than the rear one if you don't know when and when not to use it.

Lots of videos out there showing A-Trac performing as well as a locker.

You could make the same argument about automatic vs manual when you have CRAWL and MTS. Why give up two gears? IMO Toyota wasted money offering the manual that could have been spent elsewhere but they wanted to keep the diehard neanderthals happy.

Apples to oranges but Porsche doesn't offer manuals on their top of the line cars because it would reduce performance. And even their non "Turbo" cars have turbos now. Embrace the new technology.

My older toyota pickup has a manual and it has saved me twice while in the woods due to me being able to push start it. I am curious if you could do that with a newer truck.

I think most modern vehicles like a porsche don't have a manual due to most of the people who buy em probably have no clue how to use a manual. But to say people who prefer a manual are Neanderthal is odd to me.

And yeah I'm sure there a lot of videos of it going places a truck with a locker can go. I just prefer the most simple system possible. The more moving parts and computers involved, the more points of failure there are.

The automatics are faster and get better mileage than the manual. Regardless of the driver skill or lack thereof.

And you can push start the new models too.

They still have a pretty good selection, I'd be happy with any of them lol.

I was born in the early sixties. 14 years old, driving manuals, setting distributor points, and adjusting valve lash, etc. Still a big fan of muscle cars but modern cars will crush them. If you prefer simple systems, less moving parts, and no computers then stop looking at new cars.

I think you could actually do more damage with a front locker than using A-Trac. I Haven’t heard of any cases where A trac failed? It just uses the ABS system an upgraded brake booster and some sensors.

You should probably say North American neanderthals when referring to the manual. It is for more common to find a manual transmission vehicle in Europe than an automatic. I'm not sure about the rest of the world, but pretty much any vehicle I have driven in the rest of the world was a manual.

Agree - I'm glad they kept the manual offering. You might lose two gears but nothing beats the experience.

    Don’t even need a rear locker…
I like the action and motion of a manual transmission, it isn’t about all out performance for me, it is about that feeling of mindlessly rowing the gears plunking about on back country roads without a care in the world, windows down and smelling the fresh air…unless I am driving past a dairy farm. :p

5 speeds seem to be the sweet spot for me, could loose 3 gears and be ok with it.

My 3G is auto, gotta say I miss the manual. Every time I jump in it, still go to push the clutch in. Hard to loose that muscle memory after driving mannies for 35+ years.

I just want an NA engine around 4 liters or more with a 10 speed transmission. Simple, decent power and decent fuel mileage. Easy to repair and will last a long time.

Perhaps Neanderthal was a bit harsh. Overly nostalgic would be a better description. I get that there are some who want "the wind in their hair and bugs in their teeth while they row through the gears" but most new car buyers never had that experience and therefore don't pine for it.

How much R&D went into adding rev-matching and anti-stall technology for the manual? Plus all the testing and certification. How much cheaper is that tech-laden manual going to be over the auto? Will it provide any significant performance advantage? People complaining about Toyota not listening to their customers. Well, they did. Hooray, we got a manual. Did we really need it?
