I have a concern about the new inline 4 turbo. Now, I don't know anything about comparing a V6 to a turbo I4 in terms of power impulses separated by some number of degrees of rotation, counterbalancing, and all that stuff...you can tell by the way I phrased this that I don't know much. But I do know that I have an Acura RDX powered by a V6 and it is absolutely smooth running. I was interested in upgrading to a newer year. So I test drove a newer model with a 4 cylinder turbocharged engine. Now, perhaps it is different once the turbo kicks in, but at lower RPMS.....it seemed, well...cheap...I mean I thought I was driving a Chevy Chevette (if anybody out there remembers them). I opted to spend more money and get an MDX, with the larger non-turbo engine. So my concern is for one being used to the Tacoma V6.....there could be some disappointment with the new engine...even if the specs are better. What do you all think? thanks.

 

I'll be a guinea pig. I'm buying the first Limited I can find.

The new water cooled turbos can last a long time. In my opinion the problem with turbocharging is heat. Specifically under hood heat. Hoses, wiring harnesses, vacuum hoses etc. all exposed to that heat and will suffer in as little as 75k miles. Turbo engines are fun to drive, but those under hood components will definitely suffer from the exposure to additional heat.

 

The engine sounds in the videos of the new Chevy/GM twins with the new 4 cylinder sound tremendously cheap. Hoping Toyota does a better job, and I think they will.

 

Who is/was the bike mechanic you’re quoting?

 

Imagine owning a 3g Tacoma and worrying that a new engine might strain at times lmfao

 

Funny how people think 3K rpm is straining. Even 4k lol.

don't fall for toyotas latest attempt at squeeking under the line laid down by the latest bothersome federal regulations. you think they WANTED to make a 4cyl? nope. this new engine is a de facto workaround.

 

I wouldn't mind having a short bed RC '23 F-150 V8 4x4 with the super charger rear locker front torsion diff Raptor axle shafts lifted on 37's.

 

The 2024 Hybrid will be "mouse" quiet, which will be a Nice Change.

 

Don't worry, because of limited supply and dealer gouging, the dealers will install a mandatory go pro mount for $500 in addition to the $400 door sill protectors, $600 VIN etching and $1000 scotch guard protection.

 

I think this is a bit of a apples and oranges comparison. My mother had a MDX with the wonderful Honda 3.5. Absolutely smooth and powerful. I would never describe the Toyota 3.5 V6 that way.

 

Toyota dealerships bother the shit out of me. They are insufferable. Save for the one up in Clearwater I drove to get my Tacoma for. Everything down here is South Florida is slimy as hell.

Went to a family-owned Mitsubishi dealership recently and it was a breath of fresh air. No nonsense.

 

Wish we could order everything online. Not even sure why salespeople even exist still. Know exactly what I want, and they don’t even do any of the paperwork. Basically getting a commission for doing nothing.

 

Right? I just end up haggling with the finance guy. Its a completely obsolete profession.

Well shiiiiiiit, all of the finance stuff can be handled online too. Punch in the trim and options you want, all the finance stuff. Hit “Send”….and in a couple weeks it shows up at your door. All they really need are service centers. And few models on the floor to oogle over and test drive.
