Well, being completely transparent, I got halfway through the 120k service after 6 hours. Still have the transmission drain and fill, spark plugs, and air filter swap to finish.

I didn't pay attention to what I was buying at NAPA back in August and got Manual Transmission fluid instead of Auto. Original location was closing up early and refused to help. The other one wouldn't approve store credit. Not without a receipt or the other store giving the ok, even though I had my online order on my account. Lot of time wasted on that. Definitely going Amsoil now as NAPA has lost a customer.

If I had to do it again, buying everything little by little and early was a good idea. Overalls were also a good investment.

The wife moved a couple of things from my pile (i.e. the washer kit) as well. I was going nuts looking for it before I looked behind a cabinet where my stuff used to be.

Zerk fittings on these trucks are so random. Only found one on mine and it was behind a mini plate held by some bolts towards the front. Stubbornly spent a good hour trying to avoid taking off the plate. Both diffs were dark but not horrible. I did run into a stubborn 10mm hex bolt that needed some persuading on the front diff. Transfer case was simple enough. Ended up not needing the Slippery Pete Pump since the Ravenol bottles came with a nifty filling cap. I also didn't think through getting the Amsoil easy pouches and had to improvise for the used fluid. It's all sitting in two used jugs of Arizona Arnold Palmer tea and a Canada Dry 2 Liter. Should be an interesting trip to the Self Help Center to dispose of it all

Maine has been amazingly bug free. Staying at a friends lake cabin which they call a camp. Not many fish biting but beautiful despite the smoke

Looks like he's just doing a drain and refill. I thought flushes were taboo, anyway. :notsure:

I'm only doing the flush and refill on mine. Big 100K service coming soon for me. I don't care what they say, those plugs are getting replaced.

Yup, that's what I ended up reading as well. I was pretty close to deciding to do a flush with the cooler line, until more research indicated possible damage. There's uneven pressure going out and in with that method.

Then it was just deciding between Valvoline at NAPA or Amsoil. I'm willing to spend more after my recent experience with NAPA now.

Curious do you have a link to which thread discusses the uneven pressure issue using that method? I'd like to read on the subject if you still know where to find it.

Flushes were taboo in the '70s. If anyone hasn't looked at a calendar recently, it's 2023. The machines the dealerships use are set up at Toyota spec and the work is warrantied. They won't hurt your transmission doing it. And the WS fluid they use is world renowned for being ridiculously tough and robust.

I'm just curious as the house someone does a flush without one of the machines? That maybe where the pressure differential becomes a problem. If you're doing it yourself with... Air or water or something I don't know.

    That's... Where you're wrong kiddo.

And for this as well because everything I've got in TIS indicates that doing the flush at proper pressures every 100k is a good thing. And we've done hundreds of them here since I've started and never had one ever come back with an issue. Even on vehicles with quarter million miles or more.

If you do a drain and fill, you are replacing like 70% of the fluid anyway and most people havent destroyed the fluid to begin with.

if you want to go overboard, you can pin the thermostat or pull the lines or do a series of drain and fill. if you dont have the tow package, you dont have to worry about the fluid in the cooler because you dont have one.

a lot of people dont even bother changing the fluid..
