    Hey Guys,

I've been digging around in old threads trying to find an answer to this question, but I feel like all I have found is a lot of options with even more conflicting opinions, so I'm kind of stuck right now trying to figure out what I should do next. My general question is:

What is the next step up from a Bilstein 5100 lift?

I currently have the 5100's on my truck set at position 3. It's a V6, double Cab, 4x4. My goal when I did that lift was just to level the truck, and keep my factory wheels and tires. Now though, it is time for new tires, so I am wanting to increase my lift before I invest in new tires.

I've read about a lot of different options on here, but what I am wanting to know is: what is the next logical, cost effective lift option for my truck to add around another 1 inch of lift? (before the tires which will also add about an inch)

I know I could raise the position on the 5100's, but I've read a lot of mixed reviews on the ride quality after doing that. I should probably also mention that currently the rear end is stock height, but I did change those shocks to 5100's as well.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

You can put OME coils on the 5100s to gain your lift. They are about $200 for a pair.

OME 885 coils will give you about 1.25-1.5" of lift. I ran that for awhile with my 265/70/17 tires. Then I moved to OME 888 coils when I got 285/70/17 tires.

Here's a picture of my setup with the OME 885 coils and a 1" block in the rear. Next to a stock suspension tacoma but 265/70/17 tires also.

That's about the lift height that I'm aiming for. Did you install the OME 885's with the 5100's on the bottom clip position? Position 1 on the shock?

Yep! The OME ones are meant to be put on the bottom notch.

Awesome! This is probably the direction I will go then. Between the new coils, and the lift from bigger tires this should put me right at the height I was wanting to be at, and without breaking the bank.

    Thanks for the help!!

I have 885 coils on on the bottom setting. FYI, I have gained 1.8" lift. So you may think about the rear lift to level or have appropriate rake

Clip 3 on a set of 5100s should have gotten you about 1" of front lift. If you want to get another 1" over that I would probably recommend that you get the 887 spring instead. It is good for about 2" of front lift on a 3G Tacoma. Additionally, as @Vlady said, you'll want to do something with the rear as you'll now be nose high if you have 2" up front. The most cost-effective option would be to get a small block in the rear. You'd only need 1" to maintain level.

We have everything here at Hotshot Offroad too if you haven't picked things up! Feel free to call anytime at 406-936-0206 and we can help you out.

With my 1" block in the rear, I had either 0.25-0.5" of rake. Don't remember exactly but it was barely any, kinda perfect looking IMO.

@Vlady and @memario1214 I was planning on having to add a small block or AAL to the rear end after I increase the lift height on the front of the truck. Probably just a 1" block. Simple, cheap, and easy. I should've mentioned that earlier though.

Also, my stock springs with clip setting 3 did gain me a little over an inch, and my target is to get closer 2" of lift, so I will compare the 887's. I don't want to stiffen the ride too much though, so the 885's may be the best compromise for me between lift and ride quality?

@Technique I think your picture looks really close to exactly what I'm wanting, so I will probably order that exact setup, a 1" block and a set of 885's. That should be a good multipurpose setup for me. I don't really "offroad" with my truck much, just use it around the farm, and trail ride it a little, but nothing crazy. I like being really close to level too, so that rake sounds about perfect to me.

The 885 and 887 are the exact same spring rate (590#), but the height of the spring is just different. Aside from being in a slightly different resting position in the shock's stroke the ride should be equal. An 885 on a 3rd Gen Tacoma such as yours is only rated for 1.5" over stock. If you go with 885s you should expect about .4" of additional lift over what you currently have. Not saying that's a bad thing! Just not the additional 1" that you were initially looking for.[/USER]

Make sure to check if the model of 885 comes as 885X.
The topic of sagging OME coils comes all the time here. I had mine for 3 years and they are still holding at the same height.

I set my 5100s at 2" with stock coils (as per Bilstein recommendations), and added a 1" block in the rear. Rides great and I never looked back.

Upsized the tires to get more ground clearance....

    Easy peasy!

FWIW my 2887 OME srings gave me a 1 3/4” lift. That’s with sliders, front stump bumper, winch, TRD skid and sliders. Been almost 2 years now.
