Right. You’re saying your 3g does the job great. I agree. They’re very capable for most people’s situation. The 4g will be every bit as capable and more (the small change in max towing capacity, which you’re not exceeding anyway notwithstanding). No compelling answer as to why you’d shy away from it

 

Some trailers have more braking power than the tow vehicles.
I have a 2 axle boat trailer. It is able to do ALL 100% of the braking for the trailer AND tow vehicle (not a taco) if needed..

Especially downhill, or under heavy braking -you want braking from the load in the back. Not from your front wheels.

seems to me that The tundra is in the very same boat as the 4g taco. Yes, it is a 6, but it also moves quite a bit more weight. Right?

Yes, the one with the twin turbo hybrid v6. 437 hp, 583 ft lbs of torque, and this from an engine smaller than a 3G Taco. All of you Luddites will miss out on a superior drive train because you still have the 1980s "turbos are bad" mentality. (To be fair, so did I, I remember SVO Mustangs quite well!)

 

Nope, skipped 3rd Gen because only an idiot would buy an out dated engine / transmission. Hybrids are the future and this truck is a prime example of it. Can't wait to grab my Trail Hunter.

Hybrids are not the future, electric is. Hybrid is a transition. In 15 years you will have a costly antique, while my simple 3rd gen is still running with low maintenance.

I like it all, but there are some things that needed improvement, which the 4th Gen seem to cover most of it. They did manage to make it even uglier…no huge surprise since Toyota designs have been off the rails for years.

Personally would have liked to see a 3.0 Turbo diesel, 6 Speed manual with granny 1st, kept the access cab, had a true utility interior with vinyl seats, rubber floors, drain plugs, rear seat delete across all trims, and tone down the styling. Other than that the 4G looks good.

 

Possibly not entirely but we will replace my wife's car first. We purchased a Kona a few years ago been a descent little car but little room for luggage or groceries. My wife is small in stature she's had Corollas, and Elantra's, since '88. She tried a Kia solstice the seat put her knees in the dash after adjusting it to see over the dash. She's 4'7'' planning to look at the Corolla Cross. She liked our first gen but not the size of our 3rd gen for driver position. The Kona is on an Elantra chassis. The older gen 1's had pretty much a Corolla interior. The gen 2 had what looked like the Matrix when it came out.

 

Your argument makes no sense, F-150 had Ecoboosts for what, 10+ years now and they're going strong. This is why Tacoma owners are impossible to argue with, they compare actual proof with nonsense. Also who cares how many posts or how long I've been registered? Does that make my opinion less than yours? No, it doesn't.

 

My 2017 DCLB only has 36K miles so don’t need another midsize truck but will buy and need the full size Tundra soon (crewmax 6.5’ bed).

 

With the QDR issues my 2019 has experienced over its 36,000 miles, I’ll be glad to see it disappear from my driveway. Looking forward to the 4G.

I will wait after 3 years and see how reliable it is and owner reviews in terms of off roading, etc. 2016 and 2017 were the worse years in Tacoma history.

with the way dealers are behaving... and the nuttiest around trucks, me thinks it is time to start a new trend with the purchase of a sedan.

 

Minus the nylon coolant pipes and overheating, intercooler condensation, oil leaks, turbocharger failure on ecobusts. Proof like that ?

Curious what kind of QDR issues you’ve had? We have the same amount of miles and my 2017 has been pretty much trouble free w no real QDR issues.

 

It’s so weird how many 3g owners have to try to talk others out of buying a new truck. Like why do you give a shit if you’re enjoying your truck and secure in it?

 

Replaced howling rear differential - second one already howling.
No crank, no start - left me stranded requiring tow both times. Both after a new battery and fuel pump recall. Supposedly pinched wire in harness.
Replaced faulty A/C compressor.
Timing cover leak.
Replaced ABS brake actuator.
Reduced braking performance at highway speeds. VIN does not qualify for brake booster recall.
CEL - Emissions related, replaced fuel emissions vapor canister.
Engine idler pully replaced due to rattling noise.
Numerous interior rattles/ squeaks/pops; seats, headliner, speakers, dash.

Plus a few other unscheduled replacement/ repair items I may be missing. Just turned 36,000 miles and owned since new 10/2018. Not what I was hoping for first Toyota experience.

The powertrain, after 4.5 years of use and assessment, leaves much to be desired. It is tuned with latest version 9.0 tune from one of the popular choices, improvements were noted, but even they can only do so much within the constraints of NA V6 and 6AT. I'll load up version 10.0 in the mean time. I'm still seeking more improvement in drivability.
