Corralejo is a great example of that (not the bottle though). When they launched it was an AMAZING Tequila. So full of leather and tobacco notes, cedar and a little citrus or lemongrass. Really unique. But then they changed NOM's in the middle of the night and the price started falling. Soon the quality did too. It went from a $60 bottle to an $18 bottle and now had more additives than Mountain Dew.

I know a LOT of people who can't drink Tequila. 99% of them it's because they drank the cheap stuff and a LOT of it and ended up sick. I always tell people drink the good stuff it's night and day different. Even if I'm doing a mixed drink I want good tequila, the finished product is so much better.

okay. Fortaleza vs La Gritona. to my very unsophistcated palate, i like Gritona better! it is cleaner..Fortaleza has some herbalness to it. good..great, but the more readily available Gritona hangs right there. opening the Gritona bottle sucks. you almost need workgloves.

Which expression? I've always been a repo drinker but have been buying blanco lately.

    both reposados.

i love a blanco!! i noticed both tequila, despite being reposados are both very lightly colored. i imagine some companies must color their lesser products. dunno.

1921 Añejo Old Fashioned - i admit….this bottle was a total “oooh that’s a cool bottle!” Buy…but the tequila is really good and makes a great Old Fashioned.

Picked up some of Ron Whites - Number Juan Blanco and Reposado. Initial sample tasting I like the Blanco best of the two, but the Reposado isn't bad either. However, I had the Anejo version few years back and that stuff was delicious!

On the label, probably on the back will be NOM and a number which indicates the distillery the tequila was produced.

    @szidls

Got it! Here you go - and…educate me on this as well, as I only have four bottles of tequila in the house. One from Costco that I use for margaritas and then three others I’ve mentioned above at some point.

This site is a great resource for finding additive free tequila. You can check NOM of distilleries and get reviews of different brands/expressions. Most ratings over 80 are considered good. Upper 80’s to 90+ are considered excellent. Wealth of information. The 1921 Anejo looks like positive reviews. It’s all about what you like to drink.

Perfect! That’s the site I’ve been reading over the last 6 months in my short time of tequila. After reading a little on NOM - realized it’s just the distillery ID.

The few I have are rated high, but, regardless of that, I like the taste! But this is helpful for the additive free information.

    Thanks for the info.

As a whiskey drinker I was never into tequilas (aside from mixing in a margarita) until my son introduced me to good tequila. He brought back a bottle of Revolucion Extra Anejo from Mexico to be consumed on a special occasion . When he passed his Fire Service probation we cracked it open. Wow. I was completely bowled over. So smooth. I was hooked. Recently he picked up this really nice Cincoro Anejo. Again, so smooth, touch of sweetness, maple. Nice sipper.

    Cincoro is Michael Jordan's Tequila.

Most people I know who don't like Tequila have only ever had the cheap stuff (I'm not talking just price cheap). Give them a good sipping tequila and it's a whole different story. Now I do have some friends who don't drink it because they say it makes them mean lol.

My tastes have changed over the last year or so. My current favorite is El Tesoro Repo. I'm not a huge fan of the aged barrel flavor so I stick to the Repos to get a lot of the agave flavor.
When I can't find El Tesoro, I'll go with G4 or Fortaleza Repos. I stick with the Repos for sipping or for margs. I usually have a bottle of Aretta Blanco on hand for people who don't particularly like tequila but want a margarita.

I like these as well, and it’s what I have on hand, minus Aretta. G4 was introduced to me at a taco spot in San Diego…loved it!!
