HD Lowrider S. I’m one of the few v-twin guys here but my bike identifies as an adventure cruiser. This shock gives me a 2” lift and has external compression adjustment. Made by walker evans so it has some off road tech in it. Now I just need to set aside the $2k it’ll cost to add ohlins to the front.

I have an HD LowriderS. This model came with inverted forks but HD cut corners on the internals. They ride better than standard Harley forks, but nowhere near the performance of what you’d expect from “real” inverted forks. Ohlins makes drop in cartridges but all in (including assembly) I’m looking at about $2k. Externally the shocks will look exactly the same with the only tell being a new top cap with a tiny laser engraved logo. Good news for me is that because this bike has a mono-shock rear end, most people say that upgrading the rear will improve handling so much that it’ll compensate for the front enough where you might not feel the need to upgrade the front right away.

Haha. Surprisingly enough, I don’t have a single picture of my bike on my phone, but I’m sure I posted a few before. Here’s a generic web photo, but they all look pretty much the same.

That's the skimpiest rear rotor I've ever seen, there's more cutout than disc

Got the monkey out for a rip today. So the engine is all broke in after the cam and high compression piston install. Was waiting for oil filters for the Kataco clutch cover. Anyway it’s faster for sure. I put the stock front sprocket back on and it will pull up to 10k in 3rd at 57-58 mph and will hold 65 on a flat road. Compared to my 5 speed grom with exhaust intake and one tooth down on the front sprocket will only hold 55-56 on the same flat road. I am 193lbs with my helmet gloves and boots for reference. So I placed an order for a high compression piston and waiting for the cam to be back in stock. I will send the ecu in and have it flashed for the mods. We will see what I can get out of the Grom.
The mid range is also much better. It pulls harder and sounds amazing with the intake and exhaust.
In other news I am going to look at another truck tomorrow. It’s a 2004 TRD off road extra cab V6 5 speed manual with 209000 miles but in good condition. Has had the timing belt, water pump and clutch replace recently along with other maintenance records. Hopefully this is the one.

That's gorgeous! How does it handle crappy roads? That's my big hang up with a cruiser.

I love a V-Twin for the soul and sound. It's the V8 of the bike world to me, but my road is such shit show I ate it 3 different times on my VTX. Loved how comfy the bike was, but it was just too big and did not handle gravel at all well.

By contrast, I went out on the CB500X two days ago and took the long way off my road. They recently "fixed" the road which fills in most of the potholes temporarily, but it is covered in loose gravel. The little X handled it fine, even with my noob ass at the helm. It felt like riding on marbles, but it never got angry about it. I wouldn't have dared attempt the same on the old bike. Maybe it's a skill/confidence deficiency, but the little bike feels more confidence inspiring at the very least.

I put a decent amount of miles on a few of those when I worked for a dealership. Nice powertrain but the frame was something of an oxymoron. Forward controls made for a nice cruiser but not much good on a twisty road and limited suspension travel meant bumpy roads beat you up pretty badly. May have also had the worst stock seat ever seen. After about 50 miles it began to feel like a giant oyster or clam was chewing on your ass.

It looked cool, but yeah can’t see that thing being any fun on the road.

If you come across one of the V-rod Nightrod models they're way better. Mid mounted controls, 5 gallon fuel tank, inverted front forks with Brembo brakes. I put almost 500 miles on our demo bike in one weekend and seriously thought about buying one. Much better use of that powertrain. Shorter wheelbase than the original V-rod made it a much nicer bike to ride.

I hardly utilize the rear brake on the street except for a light drag here and there when coming to a stop. I’m not relying on it for real stopping power. This design is pretty widely used on supersport applications.
