I admit I've been slacking on that to be honest. It's been a hectic year so far between work, school for the kids and wife, and after school activities for the kids.

One day just turns into the next, and next thing I know a week and a month has gone by.

I have to get on that this summer, when things "slow down" a bit.

Ever think about what your truck has done for you and all you've been through together? This is my little reminisce....

2009 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport 4.0 liter V6 4x4 DCSB

Bought new in Jan 2009, paid off in April 2012.

14.5 years old, lifted on 33’s since 2 months old

245,600 miles, used 15,488 gallons of gas (nearly $45,000 worth)

    132 quarts of engine oil

    50 oil filters

    36 spark plugs

15 engine and cabin air filters

    10 sets of windshield wipers

    6 sets of tires

5 sets of front brake pads

    3 batteries

    3 windshields

Replaced once: front rotors, LCA/bushings, starter, rear bumper, driverside mirror

    Fixed: compass/temp display, blower fan/resistor

Original: frame, rear brakes, exhaust, steering rack, alternator, paint mostly

Only major mechanical issue was oil control valve and injector coil pack at around 100k miles.

Added: Bluetooth (that’s right, truck did not come with it), sat radio, navigation, usb ports, footwell lighting, heated leather seats, back up lights, aux light bars, tonneau cover, over bed rack, and air bags in rear.

I had no trailers when truck was new. Now it pulls 4 different trailers. 20’ bow rider, PWC, and 5x10 utility trailer and in-laws 4x8 utility trailer. For 9 summers it also pulled a 16’ Hobie catamaran 150 miles round trip once a week. Also regularly hauls tools and supplies to/from our lake house in Winsted and Home Depot/Lowes along with yard debris and trash. Except for some paint scratches and chips, still looks pretty new.

This truck has taken me to Vermont to go skiing every year, camping in the Adirondacks, beach driving on Fire Island, countless trips through awful roads around tri state area, Boston, Maine, Jersey shore, and Cape Cod.

My kids were 11, 8 and 1 when truck was new. Hell, I was 37. I’ve gone through infant, toddler and booster seats. Taken kids to soccer practice and tournaments, swim practice and meets, and hauled too much weight in water for fundraisers. Moved kids into college dorms, houses, and apartments and back out. Kids are now 15, 22 and 25. Youngest is about to learn to drive soon. He wants my truck but I’m not ready to give it up.

Here's the thing, once you have kids, life never slows down. Then they're gone & you're looking to see how well you did setting up retirement finances. Then the grandkids start & all your retirement plans are out the window because you're at the mercy of where your kids decide to take your grandkids.
    Soooo,
Either put your happiness first, make that new job a family priority or simply accept your crappy job provides you a regular check & that's all the matters, the rest of it you just let it go.
This new system - what are the chances the company only needs 1 person once it's in operation? Which of the 2 of you will be the 'expert' on using it? See the writing on the wall?

It's Mid-June. You have June to finish your resume. You have July to find, interview, get a job offer, put in notice & start new job. August everyone is on vacation - so no hiring, no training happens. September it's back to school & everything is crazy again.
Get on it, or be happy with a solid check that doesn't bounce. Either is good, but there is only today. Only now.

Been absolute hell with the house lately.
    • Last Friday the toilet handle snapped off in my hand (we only have one toilet and I work from home, so that was an immediate trip to Home Depot during work hours)
    • Dishwasher is leaking severely
    • Ceiling fan in my daughter's room was making a horrible noise, took me and my brother 4 hours to replace it on Sunday (turns out a house from the 1940s has different wiring than what comes with a new ceiling fan)
    • Hot water heater is pouring water out all over the basement
    • Garbage can is on a slide-out rail which collapsed
    • Bees decided the best place to build a nest was in the ground alongside the walkway to the front door, so battled that for almost a week
    • My dad attempted to power wash the house on Sunday which was super nice of him but the power washer leaked oil all over the driveway/walkway
Plus all the other BS that I haven't had a chance to fix on the house since I'm working full-time, have an 11-month-old, and am taking two condensed classes at once to finish my MBA as soon as possible. Feel like I'm losing my mind or just holding it together enough to not do so. Home ownership is supposed to be fun, right? Right???

Sob / poor me session over. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

unplug and or shut off gas
Still leaking? Did you shut off the water supply to it? Grab your garden hose and start draining it.
