So ordered a 23 Trd sport in lunar rock last august and have been dealing with delay after delay finding one on allocation. The one thing I have repeated over and over again to the dealer is having the sequential led headlights and about april I got an allocation but the build sheet had no mention of them. I asked our sales guy about this and he gave me this long winded answer that boiled down to that they had no other order code to specifically ask for the correct headlight and that all premium package and advanced technology packages come with the led headlights. Just wanted to see if anyone can confirm or deny what he said it would be greatly appreciated.

Below is what my dealership email had when I asked to add the LED lights. In order to get the LED, the tech package also had to be included but I don't recall that the LED lights were a given and actually had to pay an additional $485 on top of the $1450. Either way they were itemized. Unfortunately I can't find the pdf but I am sure it had LED lights specified as well.

The LED headlights are a specific item in of themselves. That said, I can't speak to whether Toyota requires the tech/advanced tech packages to access the LEDs. Wouldn't be surprised if the basic tech package is required though.

They don’t on the trd or, at least. Can’t think of a reason why the sport would be different.

He is lying unfortunately, I wish more people (not just sales) would go with "I don't know for certain but I will find out the information for you" instead of lying.

My OR didn't come with them and it has the advanced tech package and every other option. When spec'd on Toyota's website, using my zip code it should have come with them but I bought the truck 900 miles north of where I live. Not sure if it was a supply chain shortage or it was an added option for that sales district. The spec sheet I received before purchase listed "LED- daytime running lights and fog lights".

The LED running lights are standard on TRD OR & Sport but as @jLEE028 stated above, they are not the same as LED headlights that are a ~$500 option

I had one of those unfortunate trucks where I had every option, but the LED headlights were unavailable. I bought them after the fact and installed them myself.

Per my sticker, LED headlights were a stand-alone option for $485, which is money very well spent. Premium & Advanced Tech were separate packages.

Typically, when a dealer asks you to take their word on anything, your first instinct should be to call their BS. However, the online configurator for TRD Sport shows LED headlights included w multiple packages so in this case you might be alright. Fingers crossed for you.

As a reminder: just because you walk into a dealership with a build sheet for your ideal truck doesn't mean you can get it.

Toyota works on an allocation system. Say your local dealership is allocated 100 Tacomas for a year. 60 might be assigned DCSB, 20 DCLB & 20 access cabs. Of those 100, 10 might be SRs, 30 SR5s, 25 ORs, 20 Sports, 10 Limiteds & 5 Pros. And to further muddy the waters, those 45 TRDs (OR & Sports), some will have no additional tech packages, some advanced & some premium. Oh and add colors to the mix as well. Pretty quickly it's apparent that "your" truck isn't as likely to happen as you would like to think.

After all that, basically anything you add on the configurer from the accessories tab is what thr dealer can easily change (because they're all done at the port and not the plant).

It’s exactly as @gsubioguy explained above! I just had the exact conversation with my dealer. I lost my Taco to a careless driver several weeks ango, and now I’m looking for a new one. I built the ideal truck online and I’m willing to wait, but the salesperson said you cannot order a truck from Tacoma, they get allocated. You can’t configure exactly what you want because of the allocation system. it’s strange and too bad Toyota does this. The dealer knows I am leaning towards a manual transmission Off-road, and they are willing to put me on a waiting list, but keep telling me to keep an open mind.

I know my sister ordered the exact Fort Maverick she wanted, and they notified her when it was in. It would sure be nice if Toyota would switch over to this type of system!

@Noah4x4lunar, I understand your concern about wanting LED headlights, I’m in the same boat. I’ve been going through the same argument with the dealer as you. I was under the assumption you need to have the tech or the advanced tech package, but like others have said, that one particular item can probably be changed out after the trucks built. Good luck for sure, keep us posted!

Toyota's system is bizarre to say the least. I also love that when looking at vehicles online it will tell you that a configuration is not possible, not because its not possible, but simply because there are none like that in your region. When I was originally building mine it was telling me I couldn't get white with leather or something dumb like that.

OP, if I go to www.toyota.com now and build a Tacoma there is no independent option for LED headlights BUT the LED headlights ARE included in every option. I agree that the build sheet should say LED headlights but the salesman doesn't seem to be completely wrong either. IMHO the $1300 LED+Tech package is a good buy, even if you don't want those features they are not intrusive and will help with resale down the road. The advance tech adds the 360 camera, which is almost worthless aside from seeing the parking lines when backing into a parking spot (not that I'm bitter for getting the camera instead of the LED lights.....)

I was presented with the same list when I built my Toyota online. And I was asking the dealer about things like the hard tonneau cover, because it seems like when I upgraded to a higher package, the cover disappeared, but then it reappeared on another configuration. o_O

Whether it’s true or not, I don’t know, but the dealer told me that when the dealer configures a vehicle on a build sheet, every option is very individualized, and they have a lot more choices than a customer building a vehicle on Toyota’s website. :annoyed: Very frustrating, but I thought I’d pass that along to anyone reading the thread.

Yep, I had to explain to the same sales guy three times at one dealership that LED headlights are not the same as the standard LED fogs and DRLs. I ended up not working with that dealership after he made the mistake for a 4th time...

It’s really crazy how the sales people just want to push stuff on us when we’re spending $40,000++. Anyway, I just dissected the e-brochure for the Tacoma, and even there it lists the LED headlights as part of a package but then as part of an add-on. It’s very confusing and not well done.

I know for me, at the end of the day they can bring in any truck they want out, but if it doesn’t have what I want, I’m not buying it. It’s very frustrating when we’re at the end of a model year, supplies are limited, and—in my case—I don’t have a truck right now and I really need a replacement!

It’s awesome we have Tacomaworld though to discuss everything and keep each other educated!
