I bet some will do it. Some will change out to bigger turbos too. I can see a lot of bad things will happen from over modding.

can already see some better tuning coming out. Someone always figures it out. Never imagined I would get better MPG’s with my weight and bigger tires but they did with a tune. But you’re right about the turbos too.

Based on the released power figures and torque curve, I bet the turbos are probably close to being maxed out.

There will be flash tunes and cat delete (downpipe) to squeeze some more power , but that’s more than likely going to cause the turbo to operate in a lower efficiency regime(look at compressor efficiency map).
That will cause heat soaking to be an issue, which means cooling upgrades needed.
Out west, during the summers, shitty gas + hot intake air temps, it will not happy.

I would leave it alone but I value reliability over power gain on already stout engine

Its a 4 cylinder man. Just a little 4 cylinder. The next thing to get out of it is the pistons shooting out your hood. Then they stick batteries and the electric drive to make up for the turbo lag not doing much till its up to 6k rpm. They are really squeezing the crap out of this lemon.

Combined horsepower. What the heck does that even mean? Can you just add everything up you see and count it? Turbo sticker alone adds quite a bit.

No lag in modern turbos. Max torque at 1700rpm

I'm fairly certain that the chief Tundra engineer specifically stated that the electric motor's sole purpose is to fill in the turbo lag.

These VGT turbos pretty much don't have much lag as it is. If any.

Yep. The 4-pot makes peak torque at 1700rpm in SUV trim. It’s not a turbo celica anymore

Both the hybrid and non-hybrid make full torque at 1700rpm. The battery just tacks on another 150 throughout the entire rpm range.

    So no.

A 100hp gas + 100hp electric isn’t the same power as a 200hp of either as the power curve will be different.

The power curve evens out and is consistent with both working together throughout the RPM range.

nah its pretty uncommon for people to want more power out of turbo engines

Main question is did Toyota overbuild the engine to allow for modding?? I highly doubt it.

I have a turbo bmw m2 with a closed deck block and BMW overbuilt this engine to allow for 100+ hp safely over stock.
