Hey guys - I've got a 2023 Taco OR and bought the TRD Skidplate, part # - PTR60-35190. The dealer was going to install it for free today after changing the oil, which I thought was pretty cool -- except that the front and middle bolts on the plate are larger than the diameter of the bolt holes of the OEM plate. The two rear-most holes are the same size as OEM but not the others.

Very odd, as folks here and youtube vids show the TRD plate bolting right up. Even the directions show it bolting right up and the online Toyota fitment guide shows it fits my OR. I thought maybe the mounting brackets might be different so the parts guy cross referenced the mounting brackets and the part numbers are the same between the OR and Toyota Pro that uses the same TRD skidplate. Anyone run into this before?

Hmm, mine bolted right up on my 22 Sport. Make sure the right skid plate is in the box and check for the part # on the skid plate. Possibility you got one for a 4 Runner or something, otherwise should be an easy bolt on.

Did the new skid have the 6 bolts preinatalled in the holes? It should come that way and my recollection is 2 bolts are smaller than the other 4 bolts.

Mine had a similar issue but the bolts weren't too long, they just did not have enough slack to grab. I used a socket and mallet to whack the spacer keepers on tighter into the threads and then it went right on. Adding a small amount of anti-sieze to the threads doesn't hurt either to ease with installation.

The TRD skid plate also uses different mounting holes than the ones the stock black skid uses, make sure you're using the correct ones.

I also seem to recall that the new skid doesn't go in the same holes as the old skid. I think directions say one needed to unbolt a bolt of frame support then the new skid mounts back in those holes to resecure the frame support. Follow the directions that came with new skid. It fits. I think it was the center-most bolts on frame support that needed to be removed then replaced with new skid bolts.

    Yep - they're preinstalled.

This could be it! Will check tomorrow. I think the tech attempting the install showed me the holes the OEM plate used.

Okay - will check tomorrow. Interestingly, while there I found the directions online, sent them to the tech and service manager and we looked at them together. Missed the part to use different holes and hope that's it. The bolts are different though - the OEM ones are approx 3/16 and the TRD preinstalled ones look 1/4 or 5/16 -- noticeable larger diameter.

I'm hoping to get under there tomorrow and will post up the solution when I do. Thanks guys - appreciate the expertise and fast response!

Install the TRD plate on my 23 sport in about 15 minutes. Super easy, after removing the factory splash pans, then the required two front bolts. It was a super easy install.

almost hard to believe your dealer is struggling with this.

Thanks all! Took longer to put the truck on the hoist than it did to switch plates LOL!

Glad you got it taken care…. Fyi be careful these skid plates have become famous for cross threading the bolts….. my advice is always drop it and re install it yourself. I had to re tap a couple of friends taco’s already. Not necessary to drop to do an oil change but I do every time to inspect things.

Use some anti seize on the bolt threads.
