Yeah, my buddies with plain ol’ American NA V8s make fun of the piss poor mpg my Tacoma gets.

If one was concerned about mpgs, think that diesel Silverado 1500 is the one to get, easy high 20s, low 30s if you’re gentle. Was curious and built a LT Trail Boss, came out at $56K. Which is right on par with a Tundra hybrid, if not cheaper. Both are insanely complex, so splitting hairs in that department.

To be fair, modern NA engines aren’t not complex anymore either. Those days are long gone.

My 3.0L Duramax averages 26 in WV, which is fantastic considering the rolling hills of the highways. If I’m on a 55 stretch that’s relatively flat, I’m above 30.

My 3g has been out of warranty for 120k miles. Nothing but routine repairs based on my severe usage, if I didn’t off-road I would probably only have needed brakes and spark plugs. Not really any different than my first gen. Still comfortable putting 25k on a year.

Yep long gone, though even a carbed push rod engine is a complex machine. If you ever rebuilt one, lots of little things to get just right or it isn’t going to work.

That is awesome mpg on your Cheby.

Which NA v8 engine gets 583 pound ft of torque at 2400 rpm?

Don’t think it will go 400K+ like my 1st Gen without major repair. Expect the trans to fail around 200K, not a huge fan of autos. Lots of little things went wrong with the 1G, but still was on the original engine and trans up until a few weeks ago, engine finally went at 435K, the manual trans is still good.

435K is impressive. How many turbos and batteries will it take to get to that in the 4th gen.

That’s a solid run, is yours the 3.4l? I’ll let you know in 7 years if the engine makes it past 350k haha. If I make it to 300k I’ll be happy considering my usage. I have no reason to think my transmission will fail soon. Only 15k away from 200k. I’ve seen plenty of 2gr-FSE engines reach over 400k. The 2gr-fks is still relatively new so I haven’t seen many high mileage ones. I believe there’s a member on here who has 315,000 plus mile on his 17, and he tows a dump trailer for the majority of those miles. The highest milage 3g are all the 2.7 anyway, which one could argue is one of Toyotas most reliable engines ever made. Too bad it’s a dog.

Sir, I got got and purchased the GMC bc what is money :anonymous:

A lot of folks are buying the 6.2L still thinking it’s less complex than the 3.0L, or even the 2.7T gas, but the cam system in it is super complex and a common failure point with lifters. Sounds righteous, tho.

I’m saying ooohhh the torque because that’s suddenly all anyone talks about here. The new truck is a stupid conglomerate of every engine type ever invented but it has so much torque. No there are no gas V8s with that much torque and in all honesty there doesn’t need to be. There’s no lack of power with the V8 trucks. A lack of traction is a bigger issue.

Different strokes for different folks. I love v8s, big fan of the 5.7 in the ram and love the old 5.7 in the 2nd gen tundra. After test driving the iforce max in the tundra though I don’t see any reason for the v8. Great low end torque with smooth and luxurious delivery, it is a Lexus engine after all. Looking forward to the max in the taco. I mean Toyota really fixed most of the major downsides of the current gen. We have more options and more competition than ever in the midsize segment, it’s great considering how slow this market was prior to 2016, the incessant bitching gets old.

2.9 according to my calculations. :p

Yep 3.4. It is the cost of simple repairs will be more with the 3G, windshield because of all the sensors was $850, where the ‘99 is $150. Think the engine will be fine, while my personal vehicles have always been manuals up until the 3G, never had any luck with autos. The trans in my wife’s Trooper went belly up at 130K. All of our service vans and trucks were autos, none of them went over 100K without the trans taking a nose dive. Don’t care for them, was talked into the one I have now. Also why I bought the 120K mile warranty too, simply because I don’t trust it. Plan on trading it in at 100K, though my wife says she wants it when I move to a full-size. Then it is her problem…which still will be my problem, funny how that works! Lol! :D

Dont think it is a dog, more than enough power for what I need it to do at this stage in life. It is when people try to make it something it is not, is why they piss and moan about the power. It is light duty chick truck, treat it as such. My buddies with the diesel fullsizes make fun of me, that is ok, perfectly content with my masculinity. Ha!

A lot of hype on the 4th gen with a smaller engine and more nick knacks from the factory, but did they fix the gearing problem?
