Last second speaker/amp install questions

So the new components came in and now I’m at the wiring stage. I’m a little confused on how to plug in the RCAs into the amp. Turns out my head unit actually only has two RCA female connections. So I had to buy two bridge cables.. does that make sense? Am I saying this right? I now I have 4 male ends like I believe I’m suppose to.
If my head unit only has two female connections does that mean I only need two RCA cables (2 male ends to go into amp)?

Again, I’m only doing the front speakers And tweeters which came with their own crossovers. Here’s a few pics.

Some headunits allow the ability to change said output to either low range (subwoofer) or with no filtering (full range).

Check to make sure you can utilize full range as that's what you'll need for your new components.

Since you're only doing fronts, that will be considered one left channel and one right channel IE only 2 RCA plugs total.

Utilize channel A for said inputs and remove any filtering and just use your headunit for any adjustments for convenience.

 

in this case, you only need 1 pair of male-end rca's from the head unit to the amp. you'll only be using channel 'A' of the amp. channel 'b' will not have any connections. as kwikvette said, make sure that the rca output is set to full range, or high pass, if possible. i know some 1-pair output radios only offer a subwoofer output-- this won't work in this case.

where i differ from kwikvette is that i would recommend setting the amp crossover to 'HPF' for high pass frequency, and would set that to 40hz. the door speakers really can't reach much below 50hz anyways, so this step is done to protect the speakers from being pushed to far physically.

 

I considered suggesting HPF on the amplifier, but either works.

A test track or two would allow him to adjust everything from his head unit, then again we're unsure of the available options so filter on the amplifier may be in order.

 

i always set my amp crossover points just under where i tend to drive the speakers as, specifically as a 'fallback' settings. realistically, they don't ever matter once the real crossover settings take effect.

it's an old carryover from my full-active carpc days. i was the only one writing the instructions on how to use the dj software to setup the crossovers, so i screwed up a ton of times figuring out how things worked. had i not had the amp crossovers to save me, the times i accidently routed the sub output to the tweeters would've cooked something.

 

How do I tell if the RCA output are set to full range?

 

Your headunit's settings.

You can just look up your model and check out the specs; it'll state if your output is low pass only or not.

Almost positive that this is the model head unit that I have, this one just looks like a newer design. Should still have the same specs right? Or could that have changed from when I bought it 4~6 years ago? I’m trying to find where it mentions full range in the specs info. Here’s a snapshot of the specs in case the link is dead.

Stereo model is normally right on the front of the stereo.

If you pulled it out to view the only 2 RCA plugs in the back, then it'll be in the back.

 

The back of it looks identical to mine.

 

Haha sorry I forgot to mention. I still haven’t 100% confirmed the model number as I’m at work right now. As of right now I’m going to assume that this is it but I will be confirming tonight.

Somehow I managed to confuse my previous trucks stereo with this one. It’s not JVC. It’s Pioneer. I see in the audio spec section it says Crossover Network: LPF, HPF. RCA outputs look like they’re 2 Volts.

Also found this pdf spec sheet. Scroll to page 6. This is all new lingo to me, idk what anything means lol.
I’m suppose to be looking for something that definitively says RCA output is full range or high pass right?

 

And how can I tell if my amp crossover is set to HPF and 40hz?? There’s only this adjustable switch that has 3 settings that I’m assuming are for low, medium, high.

 

Based on that you should use REAR/REAR

Odd to see an output on your RCA's to be considered Subwoofer or Rear when normally it would be either

1. Subwoofer only

2. Full Range or Subwoofer

Specifying front or rear on a preamp signal out is just, odd

Your amplifier will literally tell you what you are set at based on where you physically move your switch and/or dials.

If there is no 'infinite' adjustment based on your 'low, medium, high' description, again that is where you refer to your owner's manual to see where it cuts off at.

"Low" "medium" and "high" will differ between brands, as this is not standardized by any means.

It's like telling someone to go fast, so they go 80mph whereas for me it'd be 160mph; see where I'm getting at?
