4th Gen Tacoma (2024+)

It should, starting price on them now is about 40K, so I figure the new gen will start around 45-47, Land Cruiser will be above the Sequoia which starts at 59K. Plenty of room in there for the Land Cruiser.

 

Well, it’s also not the Wrangler or Gladiator. Also, the JL/JT manual trans is an absolute abomination. There’s a massive recall on it for them grenadine and BBQing the vehicle.

 

The new tundra has been full of issues, been in those groups since it dropped as a full size is my next move, drove two, build quality is similar to domestics now and cheaper feeling on some trims. Time will tell. Wife agreed to a 3rd gen raptor and my Taco is paid off so I may go down that route but Ford.

 

Not really a discussion, you talk out of your ass and make the same old tired claims. When others and I engage with facts, information and a different point of view you seem to take it personally. If you substantiated your claims or bothered to bring anything to the table other than complaining it would be a discussion. Are you excited about any aspect of the 4g?

 

Only time will tell how good of an engine this will be, but I am all for it. No specs other than HP and TQ at the moment

I was against the idea of an aluminum block V6 many years ago compared to my iron block 5VZ, then I personally saw a family member buy a 4.0 4Runner and rack up 206k miles on just oil changes before trading it in. It ran as smooth and quiet at 206k as it did at 20k

So nobody will know until this 2.4 proves itself, but the N/A V6 is nearing extinction in the Toyota lineup. This is the future

 

Its a tale as old as time. No one likes change. The 5.7l in the tundra was ahead of the it's time when it came out. But now it's an "simple ole NA V8" that everyone wants cause it's not so "complex" like these new engines.

When the 3rd gen came out it got nothing but flak and no all of a sudden it's the simple V6 everyone wants? It was talked up as being so advance with the direct and port injection plus the ackinson cycle. That's right not one, but 2 injection systems. You would have thought they would be dead on the road at 100k with so much complexity!

Its 2023 why are people still scared of turbos?

 

The $ and complexity is spot on. To my understanding, turbos have a higher standard of maintenance, strain other components, and break more frequently. Also, its a 4-cyclinder truck--is it really a truck at that point? Only by DOT standards.

I'd buy into the turbo hype if they dropped the iForce 3.5L V6 twin-turbo engine from the Tundra into the Tacoma.

Not really. The color of the trail hunter is nice. Most of the new features seem pretty gimmicky. The price is most likely going to be stupid and the reliability questionable so I’m not sure what my next new vehicle will be. That built in Bluetooth speaker may sway me though.

 

Don't know the gear ratio but with an 8spd trans I don't think it is going to be under geared. Overdrive can only be so high, so the first one or two gears should provide plenty of torque multiplication.

I'm holding out for the 2024ish Stout. Rumored to be based on the TNGA-K platform with a hybrid power plant like the rav4.

 

Is that the same engineer that TFL had on before? I remember when they asked him why the Tacoma still uses drum brakes. His response was something along the lines of “Yes, it has drum brakes.” Lol!

 

I guess the Tacoma has never been a truck then. Its had a 4 cylinder ever since the first "Toyota Truck". If it puts out the numbers reliably who cares how many cylinders it has. So your afraid one turbo but not 2???

 

Well I can understand but the number of cylinders are irrelevant in some of today's modern engines. Toyota doesn't just guess when they create a powertrain it's always purpose built and they are just adapting to current EPA requirements and they actually exceeded the power of 2023 engine powertrain. I can understand it doesn't make sense a 4cyl Toyota can put out so much power but they make a 3cyl that makes 300 HP in a sports car. So bigger isn't always better.

 

Bingo. They compete in their target segment and they’re 100% not going to galvanize their other segments (such as putting a Tundra power train in a Tacoma..).

4G forums are going to be wild when this thing launches.

 

It makes no sense to worry about blown turbos. That shit's either going to happen, or it's not (hint: it's not), and we're never going back to large displacement NA engines.

So buy the G4, use a high quality synthetic oil and commensurate filter, change it at the recommended intervals, and chill.

 

Sheldon the the main engineer of the gen 4 Tacoma...not sure if he was the main guy for the 3rd gen though and he was the one in the TFL video

 

Toyota has been testing this truck for what 2 years since we saw the mules . Not sure why everyone is scared lol
