Certainly looks like an over temp but the data downloads show none happened over the last several months. The engine was still within acceptable operating parameters too, even with that damage. Definitely weaker than it had been and running hotter but still legal to keep installed and flying until we took it apart and found this.

A few photos from last month's airshow in Augusta, GA. This was the first airshow held there in over 20 years, and it didn't disappoint! Definitely a hot and humid weekend but well worth it.

    BEAUTIFUL!

Hope they include the actual history of each show bird. (Where it operated, by who, when, etc.)

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
Sad story from the Aviation world:
Renowned Aviator Brian Shul Dead at 75 - FLYING Magazine.
This was one fantastic aviator -if you have not heard of him look him up on Google!
I wrote a slight bit about him (and me) on his photography website.

Truly a great Man! So sad to lose him. I discovered the story of his life a few years back and have passed on links to it to many friends and family members. Our lives were very similar in many ways. Almost exact same age -I am 4 months older. We both joined the USAF and flew on "classified" aircraft - me on the RC-135M (as an enlisted crew member) and Brian the SR-71 and the "T-28" of which not much is mentioned). We both took off and landed at the same place many times -Kadena AFB Okinawa. I am reasonably sure we both went thru Survival training at Fairchild AFB. Pretty sure we also went through a special survival course know as "SV83A" at Fairchild. We both loved flying , although his was at a much more elevated level (in many ways more than elevation). We both wound up crashing (and surviving ) in aircraft crashes in similar prop planes -Brian in the T28, and me in a T-6, in 2016 (WWII trainer). One of Brian's AF flying pals and classmates from his original flight school is a High school classmate of mine (Joe Bazin)! Brian and I both flew missions over or near, (my case) North Vietnam. And last but not the least, we both love bird photography as a retirement activity. I have my own autographed copy of the "Sled Driver" book given to me as a Christmas gift from my three kids. This book now has become more special to me since he has passed on. Rest in peace Brian!!

Found a VHS tape I did on 9-15-1992 and i just converted it to digital format. It a first person view of mechanics trying to get the only 4 flying C-17's at the time to all launch and do a form flight over KEDW in celebration of the first flight of the C-17 on 9-15-91.
Some interesting aircraft on the ground behind the taxing F-15 at 2:11 in the video. 1 being the only 2 seat A10 ever made. Video quality makes it a bit hard to see but they are there.

Maybe 15(?) y.o. I was at the Riverside, CA airshow. There was a C-17 on static display throughout the weekend.

Late Sunday afternoon it departed. It took off, immediately pitched up at least 30°, then banked left 45° while still climbing like a beast. I distinctly remember jumping up out of my lawn chair, thinking WTH?!?

Then it came back around, landed, used reverse to back up the length of the runway (hahaha), then departed for home.

I get it, she was empty and low on fuel, but it was very impressive. It's a cool memory I will keep. :hattip:

I've never understood why they let the C-17 program sunset.

My Dad flew C-124 Globemaster IIs (Old Shakey). Hell of a big plane, for it's day. Always thought the C-17 seemed pretty worthy of the moniker, by what I've learned about it.

I was half expecting a @MQQSE cameo in there
few years ago i was down in Grand Teton Park. the Jackson airport is right outside the park if you've never been down there. i was just driving along and heard this loud AF whine coming and knew it was not a regular commerical flight taking off. i stopped and go out of the car just in time to see a C17 climbing up oh so slow. then he freakin banked left TOWARDS the mountains and proceeded to do that over and over just doing touch and gos. found out later there was a POTUS visit scheduled the following week and i think it was the crew that was going to be carrying all of the armored vehicles for the motorcade doing a trial run or something.
it freaked me out when he banked towards the mountains, didn't think there was going to be room for him to do a 180 but those things are nimble!
