Well, they had an engine already the 2UZ-FE 4.7. If they would have stuck that in there in the first place, perhaps people wouldn’t have complained “as much”.

Not what I am comparing. Wonder if there would be much difference if they put the 4.7 V8 in there instead of the Turbo 4.

That is the thing, most trucks nowadays aren’t used for “work”. There is reason that DCSB are the most popular.

Can't wait until someone FINALLY puts some miles on one of these things. I bet the performance is vastly better than the 3G and a good number of 3G owners will be trading in early (like before 100K) because of it.

What about when they put a minivan engine in a truck? Isn’t it now going to be a car engine in a truck? :D

The folks who currently “don’t like it” are very few in number. This truck is going to sell like crazy as long as the core pricing isn’t too insane

But but...the engineers at toyota know what's best and they have figured out how to extend the oil change interval for turbo engines....I would expect the Tacoma to have a 10K interval just like the Tundra...(although it may not matter since the Tundra is chewing up bearings at 20K just send it...lol)

But we are where we are. Some don't have to like it. Life isn't fair even with truck engines.

Of course but they will be trading in for the cool factor not because they want to get 1 mpg better fuel mileage or need the extra torque to haul the minimal payload and tow ratings the taco has.

even if they recommend it I would not do it hell, I don't do 10k intervals in my 3rd Gen. Oil is cheap

Well it can be, I am looking at a F350 with the 7.3 after I move on from my Tacoma. Roughly the same cost as a Tundra hybrid, if not a touch cheaper with much better capacities for yanking a travel trailer around.

Toyota for decades has made odd powertrain decisions across their lines. Like the 4Runner got the V8 and the Tacoma didn’t. Good friend of mine has one of those 4Runners, drives a hell of a lot better than my V6 that is for sure.

Moving from a Tacoma to an F350 is a hilarious lifestyle change. Wouldn’t even compare motors at that point since you’re driving a house.

Just make sure you option for the better gears for the gas motor. Or go all in for 1000+ tq of HO diesel. Buddy has an F350 Tremor with the diesel and gahdamn it’s awesome.

The true gains come in the form of higher profits for Toyota in both higher sales prices and higher service costs since repairs of these more complex systems will need to be done by the dealer. Most people aren’t swapping a turbo or repairing a hybrid system in their driveway.

I think they’re all copying each other because most autos are stating 10k now, except Subaru. They know their shit burns oil lol

Yup. It will be interesting to see what Toyota says. I used to have a Forester XT and the manual said something like (it was years ago) 7500 or 10000 mile oil changes then they recommended doing them a 5000 because a tiny screen filter in the turbo oil feed could clog with just a tiny amount of sludge. We ended up trading that in early before any issues came up.
