Yup all three houses my parents currently have were bought cash in hand. They've never had a mortgage, and only bought their first house in 2018.

Not even Barstow likes Barstow, that's like middle of BF nowhere desert CA, and not the pretty kind of CA desert

That's legit as hell, doing it not once, twice, but three times.

They're probably excellent at managing their money.

My dad is the same way, but I've only learned a little from him.

My house in Monterey County was paid for cash, but my first house was financed...which technically wasn't mine I just signed for it for my mom as she bought it up when the market crashed in 08-09.

She sold that house some years later, made plenty from it, and travels outside the country about twice or three times a year.

She sent me a message on FB yesterday from Italy.

My mom paid mostly cash for hers and my dad did too, but only from selling previous houses. It’s tough if you’re just starting from scratch at an entry level salary. Even so I had a good start a few years ago, but I blew it all these 4x4s.

You have to hustle if you really want to make it in life.

I mean that in the nicest way possible.

Those "4x4s" were pennies on the dollar.

Is that the Venice Canal? Rebecca really wants to go back there someday, she studied abroad in Venice while in college.

Apparently that water is extra level filthy though haha

We also went to the Mojave and Death Valley, Barstow was just a stopover.

Yeah if you're gonna do the desert DV is a must. Mojave has its spots. But I'm really not much of a desert person, I'll take forested mountains over desert. But DV does have some beautiful mountain landscapes especially the right times of year.

The only good thing to come from Barstow is a means of leaving Barstow

Wait was that Barstow? For some reason I thought that we met up a ways before Barstow but maybe I'm just trying to forget that I was in Barstow

Because you're worried about it, I don't think you need to worry about it.

I def could be better at budgeting. But even then I’m probably not taking over the world on a 60k salary.

Yeah, that was our meet spot on the way to Moab.

And when we gassed up in Barstow on the way back home.

    Again, hustle.

If there's a ceiling you're coming close to in your current job, you need to leave and aim for higher.

If you need some motivation, here's one - I was homeless at 16 for a good while and on my own since.

Just have to have the right mindset that only you could make shit possible for yourself.
