First dealer I got my 2022 from was upfront and the price I was told is what I paid truck also got there the week he said it would after a 2 month wait. New dealer for my 2023 in a different state is giving me weird vibes, I read their reviews and everything was fine until I started noticing the same words and verbage in each review just said differently. I have a signed agreement sheet by me and the sales manager and my truck is supposed to come in next week.

Any games I should be watching out for? Ill be paying cash outright for it. Does a signed sheet by the sales manager ensure they can't change the deal or is it bullshit and just holds me to my end? What's the worst a dealer ever did you to you? Im a little anxious instead of trying to upsell me they will pull some bullshit. I sold my only vehicle to fund this purchase and I work from home so it's not a huge deal but my future depends on me getting this truck at the price they said on paper.

    I signed a purchase agreement.

Read your contract. We have no clue what you signed.

Still will govern what they can actually do (like exceptions clauses)

Of course expect all the quality time with the finance manager for extended warranties, blah blah blah. (which if you want can be bought elsewhere for much less)

Dealers don't want you paying cash for a new vehicle, they lose commission on the loan!

And yes, they will all-but try to trick you into extras like extended-extended warranties, things that "don't effect your payment much at all."

It's a shame we have to be so defensive and protective when trying to give these dealers our money!

Just proof read your contract. Look a the bottom for dealer/doc fee, window etching, out of state service charges etc. If its not there you should be good to go. I dont think they can change pricing but if they decide to sell it from under you to another dealer or customer for more money i suppose that they could renege on the deal that way without breaking the agreement.

The only very annoying game I had to sit through was the classic "let me check with my finance manager" while proceeding to take >10 minutes at a time every time I asked for a complete breakdown of the costs of the options/warranties that interested me. She kept reprinting the breakdown sheet each time she came back from the "talk" so I was highly suspect of adjustments in pricing but I had my own notes on hand and it was consistent at least.

What should've been a 30 minute ordeal gets dragged into 90 minutes for these "talks" with the manager.

Very good suggestion. Problem is two-fold. You will need a magnify glass to read pages and pages of small print and you might also need a lawyer to review before signing.

Just saying dealers look out for dealers first and everyone else second. And they don't like customers who want to take an hour plus to read all "bogus" small print. Paying anything way over sticker - is a FOOLS PLAY. Especially since you can go to other dealers 10 to 100 miles away from where you live and probably buy close to sticker. IF not at sticker.

I went from Long Island to Rhode Island to purchase mine. Worked out all of the details before I even left. Me and my bro went there and the salesperson tried to play games with add ons. I told him the ride was great, the bacon was awesome at the diner, but I was and will turn around and leave. Was going to go to Capital One for a bank check, but if I recall it was over 40 miles away. So I took whatever financing they offered. It didn't matter because I was going to pay it off asap. The finance guy pleaded that I make at least 3 payments before doing so. I said sure, I just wanted to leave. Paid it off when the first statement came. You're the consumer, you are the guy/gal with the money at the moment. So therefore at that moment, you are in charge. Be prepared to walk. If they smell you're desperate for the vehicle, you're gonna loose somewhere in the deal. The deal I was quoted was the deal I got.

Since we're hating on visiting dealers, here are all the states that have laws banning direct care sales (require dealers).
    • Alabama (also bans service centers)
    • South Carolina (also bans service centers)
    • New Mexico (also bans service centers)
    • West Virginia (also bans galleries)
    • Kansas (also bans galleries)
    • Louisiana.
    • Texas.
    • Wisconsin.
    • Nebraska
    • Iowa
    • Oklahoma
    • Arkansas
    • Connecticut

Why do some dealers refuse to remove their dealer add ons but others offer it removed as soon as you ask? I'd assume all were willing to at least discount the dealer adds.

Try this: Take your wife/spouse with you when you go to buy a vehicle. When the sales person leaves you alone in the room to "go check with the sales/finance/parts/coffee manager" whatever: it's a scam. Wait about 30 seconds and get in a "fake fight" with each other, voices raised and one of you walks out in a huff. They are always watching from somewhere sipping coffee and they're talking about the weather.

Sales guy will come running back in with the paper work and you'll be out the door in minutes. Hint: always bring two sets of keys with you if a trade on your current car is involved: they can never "find them" after they take it for a test drive to the back of the store. Have the wife/spouse drive up in the trade out front and honk the horn. You'll be done in 10 minutes... 5 mins if she walks in saying: "Let's GO!" :proposetoast:
