Pre wired for back up camera

I have a 2012 base model Tacoma 4x4 4 cyl. It was pre wired for cruise control and intermittent wipers but not fog lights. I added cuise and intermittent wipers. My question is. I have a wire harness that goes from the bed of the truck to the tail gate. Does this mean I'm pre wired for a back up camera? My tailgate latch has a camera blank. If so what all do I need to get to get it working? The image shows up in the rear view mirror correct? Where does the harness come out of the headliner? Thanks for any help.

I have a base 2013 and I'm looking to install all 4 upgrades myself too (back up camera (have the wire harness), cruise control, wipers and fog lights), how'd you identify what you were prewired for? I called the dealer and they said I'd need to pay and bring it in but I'd like to identify it myself and install if possible.

 

For the wipers, all you have to do is replace the stalk. The other mods require more work.

 

I just added the control switches for cruise and intermittent wipers after reading that most are prewired and they worked. I didn't see any wiring for fog lights so i just added a stand alone harness with a switch in the oem slot. Rear view mirror i see the harness at the tailgate but still researching harness location in the cab if any.

 

My 2014 had the blank for the camera and was pre wired. All I did was buy the actual Toyota camera, plug it in a wa-la, backup camera worked.

 

does it come with the rearview mirror (with the back up screen) from the factory ?

 

Did you have the overhead storage area? Mine does not and I'm not sure I want to remove it only to not find one. The headliner does have a small slot for wires to fit through.

 

Like the sunglass holder and map lights console? Mine does, yes. Just fyi my truck is a 2014 v6 AC SR. So base model but maybe not as base as a regular cab 4cyl.

 

Right on. Interesting because I thought most were wired for fog lights and less so cruise control. I was hoping to understand the rhyme or reason to whats prewired but I guess it's completely random. Guess I'll just start opening things up.

Good luck with the camera install and please update us on how it goes. I have the touch screen head unit and am looking to add a camera as well. Although I really like the rear view mirror display, seems more natural to use.

 

Oh and my Head Unit is touch screen and that’s where my backup camera display is, not in the mirror.

 

Yeah mine is a base model 4x4. No over head anything but there is a little notch for some wiring to a rear view mirror. Maybe I'll just buy the camera but get a different stereo and wire it up to that.

 

I don't believe mine is as I dont see any connections for a harness.
