Started an oil change on Monday and found out that the guys at the Valvoline oil change shop stripped the bolt heads for the engine oil filter access panel cover on the TRD front skid plate from one of the times they did the oil change. :annoyed: Got over it and proceeded to just take the whole skid plate off to continue with the oil change. Gonna need to find some replacement bolts and hopefully remove the current bolts without too much trouble.

On a brighter side, got to finally try a swing out 180deg awning, the Darche Eclipse. Installed it last night and am liking it. Really glad that it still allows for the truck to clear the height clearance for the apartment garage gate. It’s kinda small; so, I’ll need to try it out in the wild soon to see how much shelter/shade it really provides. Might add some tarp for walls or get their wall attachments later on.

It's been a few days, but I put the amber lights on and the decals, thinking of a roof rack (Prinsu probably), loving how this truck looks! Can't wait to find the time to take it off roading

Correct, the iPhone remembers the volume setting fore each device it's been connected to individually. If the volume is up for your headphones but down for the truck, it will remember the prior settings of the truck when you connect again, and you need to adjust the volume on the phone while it is paired. I usually like that feature but now and then it gets me.

@TekITGuy, I can’t confirm on my head unit right now because I recently lost my Taco, but if you haven’t solved this yet, here are two things to try:

1.) I think the setting on the head unit that helped out my iPhone when I first set it up was under the voice guidance volume level.

2.) I always use CarPlay with a cable, so that disables the volume buttons on the phone. But if you’re using Bluetooth, try to make sure that Siri is actively talking, and when she’s talking, try adjusting with the head unit knob and the volume buttons to make the volume higher. (There seems to be two different volume settings.) When this happened to me, I had trouble getting Siri to talk long enough to make the adjustments... Found a trick on the Internet, just say, “Hey Siri can you beatbox for me?” Lol

    Good luck!

I've been in commercial and residential construction all my life and never seen that item. If I had a guess, might be a fastener for commercial roofing?

Cleaned up the wildfire environmental fallout.. my truck was filthy between the pollen, stone dust I've been kicking up from some stonework home renovation projects I've been working on, and the wildfire smog and debris that came to our area last week. I have to rotate my tires, change my oil, apply my yearly mavcoat spray and undercarriage inspection and rust prevention. I'm considering bed stiffeners, just don't want to spend loot.

The only pictures I post .. when my truck is all clean.. this lasts about 8 minutes on black.

I've had Tacoma's for a while. I had a first gen with 475k that my son wrecked. That truck had a rusty frame and it was replaced by Toyota for free at 275k. I bought another first gen after that was totaled.... The truck had a new frame, but everything else underneath was rotted and rusted.. I had to pull the gas tank and the bed to do some rust reform on the rig, but after a few years it was falling apart when I got rid of it the rear axle pumpkin was rotted and leaking..... My son also purchased a 96 first gen... That frame looked ok, but was rotted inside......the shock mount broke off after about 30-40k of driving and offroading and I wound up having to pull everything apart and get a Safe-T-Cap kit welded on then get it back home and put it all back together.

Dealing with rust is like a full time job... I just said to hell with it and start with a clean slate... Apply the ounce of prevention method rather than the pound of cure.... In the end... Rust will win....

You'll get all types of answers on what's the best product. Fluid film, ziebart, krown, por 15, Eastwood, there are several others...

I personally feel like anything is better than nothing and the product I use goes on easy and doesn't smell bad... It's not messy, and not much debris sticks to it... Once a year (sometimes every 6 months -- depends on the amount of salt and snow) is cheap insurance to try and prevent rust.... If you sell your truck every 3-5 years then eff it .... If you purchased your Tacoma to last you 20 + years then I'd say you should probably do a little research and maybe consider some sort of rust protection.

Here on the north east coast winter snow, salt and brine, and of course the salty beach air in the summertime all can wreak havoc on unprotected steel.... If you have a preventative measure in place then you won't find yourself in my position ---- pulling beds off, grinding away rust chunks, cleaning, painting, etc etc etc.... All in vain

Search Frame rust -- 3rd gen. Unfortunately--it's a known fact that Toyota frames rust.
Search Fluid film. This is the undercarriage spray.
